Any thoughts as to why no one is taking a closer look at Lance Brauman? He already went to federal prison for doctoring the books at Barton and now coaches at the same track (NTC in Clermont) used by drug cheat Dennis Mitchell and his athletes as well as VCB, who tested positive recently. Also Kelly-Ann Baptiste tested positive over the past year or so, and is also a part of Lance Brauman's PURE Athletics group that trains at NTC.

What a stupid statement - it's a different distance and different circumstances so what they are both lying, doping, stealing cheats

Treat them the same, on these boards at least. Nobody wins world titles then starts doping he is lying and has been doping from the start.

Huge difference banning an athlete from competition and allowing an athlete to compete then retroactively annulling the results .. it affects the marketability of an athlete, to be in the races, competing, etc, then later in a sidebar in the news have the results annulled .. more importantly, a pro athlete going 2-4 years without competing will greatly impact their ability to compete at that level when/if they return .. in most cases.

I still don't see the "huge difference". His marketability is affected from the second the positive was announced, and he didn't contest it.

If he had served a 2 year ban starting July 2012, or a 1 year ban starting from June 2013, with results annulled since July 2012, are you arguing that one scenario is "hugely" more marketable?

To be honest, I'd go the other way. I'd prefer letsrun move towards more objectivity, rather than childish appeals to emotion, giving appropriate weight to what is known. They should treat all convicted dopers the same way they treat Gay -- here's what we know, and here's a list of things we'd like to know.I think it remains to be seen, if Gay's reduction was worth it. If it leads to more sanctions, that's what the rules regarding cooperation and sentence reduction are there for.

2. In which way did he cooperate? Whom did he rat out?

3. What did he take to run 9.69?

Is this softly softly approach going to work. They have been soft on dopers for decades it has not worked. This reduction is just precursor to when they introduce 4 yr bans so the athletes will still get 2 years after giving some flannel.

do tell, what did gatlin EVER do to assist usada? yeah, that's right, zero. he didn't do squat, he denied, blamed, etc etc. tyson stood up like a man, took it on the chin, said he did it, told how he did it, told who assisted him, gave the whole nine yards. oh yeah, and he's paying back a half a million dollars. give me a f***ing break, what the hell has anyone else in history done that compares. actually, dwayne chambers did the same thing, eventually, so yes, i'll give him a pat of the back as well. not gatlin, just gay and chambers. bad guys? yes, in a way, but they are the only two in history I can think of who actually tried to rectify it. class acts those two, yes, class acts.

I'm just suggesting being honest, and keeping things in perspective. If we can't do that, in order to "get it to work", then it shouldn't work.The "stupid DQ" is about the competency and fairness under the USATF. It doesn't concern the "wider" community, only the "American" community. Seems like a site run by Americans should make a big fuss over that.

So now all steroid dopers need to do is come up with some BS partial admission and the only penalty will be 1 yr ban!

Gatlin should have been banned for life and is just another example of dopers getting away with it down to weak enforcement

Reminds me of German cyclist Erik Zabel. Denied doping throughout his career, then 1 year before retiring when evidence was mounting confesses under tears that he took EPO once back in 1998 (more than 7 years ago at the time / beyond statute of limitation), claims he couldn't live with the lie anymore, because of his son bla bla bla. One year ago it came out he doped throughout his career.

The same is true for Tyson Gay. Once a doper, always a doper. Individuals like him have no moral standards and will lie every single time. He confesses only what's known anyway and will not help clean up.

Tyson Gay is a disgraceful person.

Sad to say it but this is trickle truth at its worst coming from Tyson. It all starts with a small admission.

Then more evidence will come out he was doping earlier than that and he'll confess to it again. Then more evidence and another confession. Trickle Truth.

The reality is he's probably been doping for many years and just got caught finally. I find it hard to believe it just happened a few times last year.

I would argue he started doping for the 2006 season and never stopped since.

Jumps from 10.08 to 9.84 and from 19.93 to 19.68 from 2005 to 2006.

Why is Letsrun jumping on the Tyson Gay bandwagon?? The quote on the home page makes it seem like Gay is some saint for offering to give money back. It was IN HIS CONTRACT to do so. Look what the meet director said in the article they linked to: "his contract said the money was returnable if there was a doping violation"

…he is just doing what he should have done LAST YEAR when he first got popped. Now he is doing it to save face and look good.

Remember TYSON is the person who knowingly doped. Yes, it's great if he is exposing everyone that helped him, but he doesn't need to get off scot free, reputation wise, in the process.

With the caveat that he has "low", not "no", moral standards.

There's no question in my mind that he did it intentionally, or with reckless disregard (amounts to the same thing), and that he's been doing it for a long time.

The thing about lying is that you can never again be trusted, you have to prove everything. And proving a negative, like you aren't taking anything illegal, is essentially impossible, ESPECIALLY in the current environment where the only thing that you could use other than your worthless word--official testing results--have been demonstrated to be useless in this capacity, by the fact that he didn't test positive in London, Marion never tested positive, etc.

So he can't be trusted, and he won't be able to prove that he's clean.

Screw Gay. Yes, the others are just as bad, even if they haven't yet been caught, but that doesn't make Gay any better.

As for his "plea bargain", those are supposed to be allowed when the information gained helps in the overall fight. Like someone said before, the suppliers/docs/therapists, whatever, are likely to be beyond the reach of USADA, and so the supply stream that he used is likely to continue unabated, or will find a new distribution channel. Nothing will change in the overall fight, and this bargain will have been improvident. The only thing it will get the administrators is factual confirmation of what everybody with half a brain has known all along, which is worth something if you are an administrator, but worthless to anybody else, and worthless to t&f in particular.

If he only runs 10+ and 20+ times next year, then there is a chance that he is being honest. He clearly lacks the talent to run 9.8x or 19.7x NATURALLY.
