There are very cheap lunch places where there will be little or no menu and little English spoken and they'll be full of older people. Definitely worthwhile. Try the Hunter's Soup. I'm not one for the beer soup, though I like beer. A lot of Polish people speak German, so you could try that if you know any. Ice cream is lodi and beer is piwo (pivo). About all you need. Make an effort to say a few Polish phrases and people will take you in. Steer completely clear of American restaurants. You will have a completely different experience and unforgettable. And of course, since this is letsrun, you should see the movie "Hostel," for some realism about Eastern Europe.

Try English before German. You don't want to offend them.

This advice is applicable to pretty much any country in Europe, even German speaking Switzerland.

try to sleep on the plane for a few hours. After that stay up and get to bed not to late that day. Especially from the east-coast, jetlag/time difference shouldn't be a to big problem.

Be wary of the ladyboys. They look just like normal ladies except they have a penor. It is a bit of a shock at first but you get used to it

Regarding Poland, I have not been there, but a friend of mine from Belgium has lived and worked there, as well as in Hungary, Romania and Czech, and he said that he eventually scored with every chick in the office who was worth doing.

I've been to Poland, Czech Rep., Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and all of the other Balkan States. Some of the most beautiful women in the world, and they see even a decent looking American as a ticket over here. It's not hard at all, although from the sounds of it, employee 1.1 seems pretty naïve.
