I watched the video after reading comments. I personally couldn't assign "fault" one way or the other. Whatever happened, didn't look to me like it was deserving of a disqualification by a long shot.

This will only backfire on Salazar, and Grunewald and Hasay will both suffer. Grunewald for the obvious reason of being robbed, and Hasay because of the resentment many will feel towards her unearned WC spot.

Grunewald had nothing to do with the fact that Hasay stumbled on the inside curb.

This is as bogus a DQ as I've ever seen.

Honestly, what's the point of even having these races if Nike is just going to dictate everything?

You thought they got it right in the end. I might even agree with you, though I haven't really reviewed the race.

The manner is in how they did it. If the judges ruled three times that Grunewald was not deserving of a DQ, they did not believe she deserved to be DQed.

Nike steps in, and suddenly the decision is reversed.

Just because the correct decision has been reached in the end does not mean the process by which the result was arrived at was ethical. If this is allowed to happen unnoticed and unchallenged, it opens the door for these things to happen in the future in situations where the correct decision is not reached.

Do you really think it is an acceptable thing for corporations to step in and strong-arm there way into attempting to change the results of the race?

She did not run over anyone. Thats complete horse sh!t. Running into someones legs whose is quickly faling apart in front of you as you start your kick is part of racing indoors. Deal with it you sissys. Running isnt and shouldnt be a non contact sport. Especially indoors. This is insane and the babies who think she actually impacted hasay or rowbury's race likely never ran a real indoor race in their life. Grow up, grow a pair, and stop defending and undefendable action.

The POINT, since you are missing it, isn't whether or not Grunewald's actions warranted a DQ. That is a matter of rules, and interpretation of rules.

And that is why we as athletes and coaches need to take the matter up with the US Olympic Committee. Nike is obviously corrupt and USATF is letting them get away with it due to USATF's grandiose ambitions. No distance athlete not with Nike can expect to get any kind of fair treatment.

According to the rumors that have been around t&f for years, USOC came close to decertifying USATF over the 2008 Olympic Trials competition, which were forced to be reopened by Nike after Sacramento had won the competition fair and square. This is why Craig Massback was forced to leave (to Nike, of course) so quickly.

It is now time for USOC to finish the job and force all connections between Nike and USATF to be eliminated immediately under threat of immediate decertification.

They originally ruled it correctly when reviewing the tape. Here is what happened:

Hasay was repeatedly bouncing around from inside to outside, both from lane 1 to outer lanes, and even within Lane. In the straightway prior to the contact, Hasay was in the middle of lane 1. Grunewald established position on the inside of Lane 1. Hasay was in the middle of Lane 1 going into the turn, trying to keep from getting passed on the outside, while trying to seize any potential to go outside around Rowbury, thus leaving space for Grunewald to move up on the inside of Lane 1. Failing to pass Rowbury, and sensing no one coming around her, Hasay moved tighter to the rail going around the turn. In doing so, Hasay's trailing leg contacted Grunewald behind her, where Grunewald was already established tight against the rail.

Grunewald deftly passed Hasay when Hasay stumbled and lost momentum due to her trailing leg contacting Grunewald.

Given the above facts, it was ludicrous to DQ Grunewald.

Yea......thats how it went down for sure.

Absolutely disgusting. Anyone associated with NOP should be ashamed.

UPDATE: 9:26 p.m. CT - Reached out to Grunewald's agent, Paul Doyle. He issued the following statement as a rundown of what took place during and after the race.

"Jordan Hasay was running on the outside of lane one with Gabe slightly behind her on the inside of lane one. In the straight away and into the start of the turn, Hasay was on the outside of the lane. In the middle of the turn, she cut into the inside of the lane and actually cut off Gabe. They had a slight incidental contact and then Gabe quickly moved outside and blew past her. That’s what happened in the race.

Now the official had raised the flag, because of the contact. The head official came over, talked to the official that raised the flag and ruled that there was no infraction.

So Hasay’s people filed a protest after the race. The protest went to the head official. The head official denied it saying that there was no infraction. Hasay’s people then filed an appeal. The appeal was denied as well. The three-person jury reviewed everything and then ruled there was no infraction and that was the final decision.

Twenty minutes later, the jury of appeals met again and then decided to disqualify Gabe. We then filed an appeal saying that she had not made any infraction and should not be disqualified. They denied that. We filed another appeal saying the jury of appeals had already made their decision and there was no new information, so that decision should have been final. They denied that appeal as well.”

Doyle said they will file a Section IX arbitration petition on Monday as they have the right to appeal this decision.

Grunewald is unsure if she will compete in the women’s 1,500-meter final tomorrow.

“She feels that she shouldn’t have to run (the 1,500-meter.) Her intention was to make the team in the 3,000 and then not run the 1,500. If she doesn’t want to run, she feels she’s made the team. We’re hopeful that would ultimately be the case. As of right now, she is trying to decide because her intention was not to run.”

If Salazar can just steal a result like this, what's the point of racing? Or caring?

Well we don't know if Salazar was using any "mighty intimidation" on the first 3 tries. What if he saved it for the 4th? No one yet knows how it went down. Yes, not even you. The only thing you know is that Salazar was involved. You don't know if Nike had anything to do with it.
