If you can't respond positively to a tremendous track performance and your first thought is to trash the performer, then you are certainly a woefully unhappy (and likely self-loathing) person. Which isn't to suggest you're alone in your misery on this message board.

Rupp trains typically in three places, Oregon, Park City, and Albuquerque. He's not doing great sprint training in the winter in any of those places. Of course, it's theoretically possible to go train in a warm place in the winter. He doesn't do that. Salazar doesn't have his guys simulate warm temperatures in the winter when they're training for indoors. You can reach max aerobic fitness in the winter, certainly, but you can't sharpen very well. Rupp hasn't sharpened in that way yet. Indoor tracks, I would agree, can be as fast as outdoor tracks in the distances, though not the sprints. The calendar isn't the only thing at issue, however. It is also the competition. Outdoors, Rupp will be stronger, sharper, faster, and will have much better comp. He'll also trade the calm but very, very dry weather of indoors for something like the perfect European conditions of a track surrounded by trees in Italy and he'll have pacers going 12:40s pace and comp to chase the entire way and I think that we will see that sub 12:50 this year IF and it's a big if, he fully recovers for the summer season, unlike last year, and reaches his potential. After this rust-buster, a very fine performance, he's got a great shot at breaking 3:50 and even a good shot at getting within a second of the world record in the indoor mile. (He should run the mile outdoors as well this year). I didn't know in advance whether this was a serious attempt, but obviously once again Salazar and Rupp have proven that when they set a race with a time goal, they get it virtually every time going back to the 13:37 and 28:15 that he ran as a junior.

Good argument, I have to agree with you on the training aspect. I have a 3:36 1500 - 1:02 21k training partner. But I still believe they are gaining an unfair advantage somehow, they just seem dodgy to me. That is just my opinion, I may be wrong. I believed Lance was clean until the day he confessed. So my judgement isn't always the best.

Dude, you're just making stuff up. Plenty of people get in shape for indoor and don't run as fast. Bekele, Komen, Geb, lots of guys, went at indoor hard, and almost never ran close to their outdoor times.
