For someone truly interested in mimicking barefoot running, it would be much more worthwhile to just purchase a spikeless XC racer or the New Balance rc150. these shoes have little difference in height between the heel and the forefoot and there is hardly any cushioning to get in the way of your foot's natural proprioception.
well, i guess this is just all my opinion and should only be taken with however many grains of salt one chooses...
These flats you speak of are great, once one is ready for them, which might take a couple years. The Free's are very good transition shoes.
