Huh? He may be a hard ass, but Salazar always has an excuse when it come to Rupp. Allergies, thyroid, etc. If not that then he'll use the old "we're right where we want to be in our training cycle" routine.

I like Rop over Rupp in this one. Or Rupp over Rop if Rop DNF's or is sick. If Rupp and Rop pull out together and go to Chipotle, that would be really weird.

Brojos will probably come through with some awesome HD video after the race is done in a recap--though, crazy as this sounds, I almost want to watch THIS race without knowing the result (more even than the World Championships--though I had a great time watching the woman's 1500m video (From the recap) without knowing the winner).

What time is the 5k in eastern US time?

This. I would love to see another "Watch without knowing the result" link. Really handy for those at work or in class.

If you look hard enough you will find rather complete documentation on that 'failed' failed "A". The short answer is that the A sample was badly mistreated (left in hot conditions for a prolonged period -- possibly with chain-of-custody issue, but that was not part of the dismissal of the case and I am not sure on that point). Conversely, the "B" sample was handled appropriately and showed no signs of EPO (none, not just a bit below a threshold. The prolonged discussion of the case I saw was from a very well-respected anti-doping expert that was not involved directly in the case and who completely exonerates Lagat. Of course, there are a few posters that would rather hold the doping bias rather than look at the available data. You have to look back a number of years. I think that the link to the material that I saw was on the Track and Field News site but it might have been here.

derrick's still just 22 and has a 13:09 pr. Can he break 13 in the next few years? I thought Ritz might go after a 5000m after world's. is he just training for a marathon now? he looked very capable of a fast time in the 5 earlier, just lacking the kick but not the pace.

Yes, Ritz is training for Chicago which takes place in 5.5 weeks.

Don't really see an AR as the Americans tend to follow the Africans who are all tired now and running for themselves (and money). Their time to run fast was early in the season when they were trying to impress their selection committees to make the World Championships team. Now that that is over, it's every man for himself. I'm sure there will be pacers but they will ignore them, run reasonable pace at best till last kilometer speedup.

Unless the Americans go out with the pacesetters (ahead of the Africans), I don't see any kind of record. That seems very unlikely. That said, it will still be exciting to see who is top dog among the Americans.
