Why isn't Jeremy Wariner more popular?

I have not seen any Bob Costas, Matt Lauer, Katy Couric interviews with Jeremy....is he gonna play the media circuit or is he still staying low for the 4x400.

I agree with the post in caps above.

Jeremy is a fast-twitch fiber aberation. He is also popular.

Our two other black finalist could of been on the juice rather than Jeremy.

2nd and 3rd-"Hey whats with the white guy on our team wining this race." Kinda had that look about them. They seemed tenative to include jeremy in the trio with the flag after the race. This is not a black/white issue or drug issue. Please-someone mentioned about him moving to the 800. Why would he want to? And he could not.

The likelihood of that happening based on population numbers alone is 0.0000000000000000000000000000000001.

Studies have shown that athletes of West african Origin hit a biomechanical wall after about 45 seconds of intense anerobic activity.

He goes on to mention that east African distance runners are the best in the world and other interesting info. I encourage people to read this study.

I think that popular Jeremy Wariner will stay with the 400m sice he is one of the premere athletes at that distance.

Actually, I believe it has to do with the amount of calcium one can produce. Scientifically, when doing athletic exertions like running and jumping, the body needs, I think, calcium to power the cells and muscles. The cells of black people are able to produce more calcium than the cells of white people, thus allowing them to run faster and jump higher than white people. This is all generally speaking of course, and I\'m acutally not one hundred percent that this is what it is, but if I remeber correctly from biology, it is along the lines of this explanation.

No it is not the calcium.

It is similar to the great new diet I read about somewhere. The Ice cream diet. You can only eat ice cream so that you can release the I-enxyme and the C-enzyme. No other diet do this, these I and c combine creating the posability of producing ATP in an anarobic state. Since hyperplasia does not really exist, only myofibril proliferation. we do not want sacoplasmic hypertrophy.

Using the I-enzyme and C-enzyme withe the Ice Cream Diet. What I think happens is that the combination form a new substance that reduces bodyfat while increasing muscle tissue growth. Here is the key, the new hypertrophied mucle is all fast twitch fiber. This is achieved by whereing crostraining shoes all the time, even sleeping.

We will soon see white people running 9.7 100m. The Ice Cream diet does not help athletes who previously have high percntage of fast twitch fiber, they will only get fat, also since basketball shoes are worn instead of crosstraining shoes, even if switched, the b-ball shoes do not let the I and C to combine.

I'm not quite sure but my friend who is a Chiropracter is at the forefront of this new finding. He is a real smart guy. He is a good friend of mine also. I'll talk to him in a couple days. He is busy with this astounding new find. He is also a cyclist, with this new stuff he will beat Lance Armstrong. No that would require more slow t fiber whatever. I have some new cutting ege finding that will alow 250lb strength athletes to break 4:00 mile.

That is so wrong I don't even know where to begin...

Sometimes people just do not get it. If a man is directed at a sport and has talent he will prevail no matter what color,shape or style.

Blacks have been attracted by culture to go after basketball, football,track and a few other sports. Whites get pigioned into other sports. Sooner or later one group moves on by culture to new sports. Who would of guessed Hispanics would be the dominant boxers today. Certainly not Italians who dominated mid century?

At the top everyone has talent no matter what race. The difference is will to win and the culture that brings you into the sport.

The track cannot tell what color you are.The track does not care how you run or where you come from. It just knows time and distance.

In America,if you get the job done who cares what color you are!We are not in the third world where stereotypes and class systems force people to assume roles. Its America. Hell, the fastest guy on my track team in high school was white and the best long distance man was black..who cares!!!They got the job done.

There is some difference in muscle structure and body shape between West Africans (born sprinters) and East Africans (born middle distance and long distance runners) and also Europeans. I recommend the studies of Claude Bouchard (Ph.D. of Laval University in Quebec City) and Robert L. Browne of Southwestern Louisiana Institute. The short formula: West Africans have significantly more fast twitching fibers and anaerobic enzymes than whites. And numerous studies of U.S blacks und whites have shown that blacks have by average shorter torsos, thinner hips and longer legs. Two other scientists who made research in this case are Pierre F.M. Ama and Jean-Aime Simeneau, disciples of Bouchard.

I think all this talk of Wariner breaking MJ's 400m record is very premature. He ran 44.00 and won the olympics at age 20, that is freakin awesome. But in the 400m there is a huge difference between 44 flat and 43.18. Lets be happy with his performance so far.

Saying Wariner will be the next MJ is putting the cart before the horse. There have been greater talents. Steve Lewis for example, he won the 1988 olympic 400 in 43.87 beating Butch Reynolds who also broke 44. He was 18 at the time. He never broke the world record or ran to that level again.

Quincy Watts was another amazing talent. In Barcelona he won the 400 in 43.50. He was awesome that year, he followed that up with a 43.1 split on the relay. He seems like the guy to crush the record soon. But, it never happened, he never ran like that again.

We should be happy with Wariner. But the US has never had a shortage of young, hungry, extremely gifted sprinters. Wariner is but one of many. Will he be the greatest, maybe, maybe not, but even so he has left his mark.

You are also very stupid! Track and field is very black and white, no pun intended. In our world 44.00 is 44.00! When Jeremy run faster, and does so consistently, he will be properly credited. Until then...WAIT.

yes that is true in some cases black people have an advantage due to the fact that their bodies get oxygen to their muscles faster. It has been proven but its not in all black people. It can also be found in some white people but it is more prevalent in blacks.

We have all had enough of the 1980`s gentics explainations. These guys who study this have no grasp of how sports change and genetics become less the reasons for success.Those fast twitch,west African and other scientific explainations studies get old. You can go into anyones genetics and find similarities by race.

The question is more the heart and soul of a trained athelete rather than genetics.We are starting to see that genetics plays less and less a role in athletics due to the increasees in mental aspects of competition. More and more proper training and phychology will win in athletics while pure genetics becomes just a base line.

Further, sports change and gentics do not.For instance,football requires more muscle and power than 20 years ago.You used to just have to be just shifty and agile in football.Now you have to have wrestling like leverage or you get pummeled.

Sprinting is changing in some respects too. Todays sprinters shuffle and drive violently more than the fluid sprinters of the past. Todays sprinters need frieght train power and steadyness instead of quick reactions.Micheal Johnson was the first to show that short legs and a very flexable upper body can beat long legged high knee flailing sprinters.He shuffled and muscled his way down the track like a greyhound. Other sprinters could not undrstand his somewhat 'white man' style.So what it worked. He was a sprinting God.

So genetics might play a small role. But the top sprinters have the mind, body and training all in one.

Not commenting on either side, but "common knowledge" by definition isn't kept to one person - if it's common knowledge, everyone (or a sizable fraction of people) knows it.

Bernd Heinrich (a GERMAN-BORN, WHITE former ultrarunner who set both the world and world masters 100k record with the same race) describes his archival research with regards to the Kenyan dominance in his book "Why We Run: A Natural History," which I would heartily recommend as an engaging combination of an autobiography, training diary/race story, running physiology text, and scientific journal. Gives you a very good perspective on running, and the guy was an amazing runner in his later years.

In his book, he references a book by John Bale and Joe Sang that talks about a cultural explanation for Kenyan running success. I'm going to do something that might be illegal, and quote the book here.

He goes on to say that the Nandi are "achievement orientated" - they are hardworking, and individualists. They don't do too well at team sports. Kip Keino gave them someone to emulate. "To them, racing became the only game in town..." he says.

Of course, the Nandi WERE cattle raiders and probably selected naturally for such, but as Heinrich shows, it's foolish to believe that genetics is the sole determining factor in athletics.

Jeremy Wariner is not more popular because the liberal media does not want to see a white man suceed in a black man's sport. If you would have been watching all olympic events you would have noticed there was a black swimmer who made the olympic team and medalled.She was mentioned a couple of times by the media as being the first black swimmer to make the olympics and medal.Whereas no mention was ever made of Jeremy Wariner by race........just a thought....

what's all this talk of those of west african descent dominating jumping events? Did anyone see the medal winners in the high and triple jump? Anyone take a look at the qualifiers in these events? Anyone ever look at a top-ten list at the end of the year? Even the long jump has it's share of excellent Euro's. The imbalance in the 100 is something worth talking about. But the high and triple jumps are- dare I say- dominated by Euro descents...
