I taught at Oregon State so I should be biased in that direction [and I have no ties whatsoever to U of Oregon]. However, the two schools are, overall, on about the same plane. OSU gets more research money because the engineering school and the Ag school are there, while one typical area for the State U that is not the Land Grant school is the med school, which is up in Portland, I think [for instance, the U. ov Washington ranks extremely high for research money but a lion's share is medical research which does not flow to most of the school].
My conclusion is that the persistent poster repeatedly attacks Oregon and will go find a selected set of statistics that appear to indicate such than then he (unlikely a she) plays up the implications. Everything this person posts should be taken as rhetoric and not as real discussion.
Faculty gets the students and has little to do with admissions. I was a department manager at OHSU and UP decades ago and the facts are the facts unless disproven. Understand that out of some 2,500 US 4 year colleges, OHSU, OSU, UO sits in the top 75th percentile. However there is a difference between kids academically qualified for the schools at the very top as 18 year old freshmen, and those who are not. I will not explain because if you don't know already, it shouldn't matter to you. However at 18, I was not one of those kids. My opinion is that kids should just have a fun time in college.
I joined the US Navy Seals at the age of 16 and took part in hundreds of assasinations for the CIA in Iraq before I was wounded and separated with full benefits. I then was invited by a former SEAL Admiral to attend M.I.T. where after considerable stress I completed a Ph.D in Theoretical Physics.
From my personal assessment, the University of Oregon ranks right below M.I.T. and Harvard with regards to academics.

I'm from Shenzhen, served in People's Liberation Army 12 years, attended university for engineer electronics Guangdong, and now living my wife 2 childs in Palo Alto, California. I can understand that People's Liberation Army having cyber spies on University of Oregon in Track Town USA. PLA think Stanford, Cal is dog shit. Cal Tech is fake, only Hollywood Speilberg movies of Curiosity Mars Rover. Americans on Opium is all PLA thinks. No care ever. But one exception: Only Oregon DUCKS have techonolgy for China. The best school is world is Track Town USA University. Happy Chinese New Year.
You guys are being intentinally mean to the UO kids. After all Pre may be a "could of, should of, would of" but Eugene still has the most metch labs per capita in the USA.

The fact of the matter is that there are tons of companies in ever state where the majority of employees went to the local universities.
Not at all, I'm just saying that there are a ton of schools that are better than UO. Some notable state schools are: UNC, NC State, Virginia, Pitt, Penn State, a few SUNY schools, and the list goes on. Oregon's only good stat is that it is #8 in the nation for its education school. Other than that there will be 50 applicants hired over an Oregon graduate.
