Nothing odd about word class marathoners at age 35< as it's the MARATHON.
There's lots of red flags about a 38 year old running blazing middle distance times.
Lagat is at Lance Armstrong levels of obviousness with his running right now.
Also to the guy that said why would Lagat risk using drugs at this point in his career, why would Lance dope in 2009 on his comeback tour and risk getting busted?

Perhaps you should think.
Lagat is running slower than he did when he was younger. He was so fast before so that, even with the effects of being older, his times are still fast. Has nothing to do with drugs.
Now, if he was running faster now than when he was 22, then perhaps your accusations would make some sense.

Nobody said he must be on drugs. However, when a 38 year old is within a second of their PR in a middle distance event, you have to admit it is reasonable to question the circumstances. I just don't think it is physiologically possible that your capabilities at 38 are not at least in decline. That does not mean that you can't set PRs or still run close to them, but to me the only reasonable conclusion if he is clean now, is that he would easily have had the WR 5,6 or even 10 years ago. Maybe he has discovered some breakthrough training. I'm 38 and conceivably could set some PRs still, but that is mostly because I never really took my training to a really high level in the past. I am pretty sure that Lagat has been training at a very high level for years. When you are already at 10, the only place to go is to 11 and only Spinal Tap can do that.
Last time an athlete near that age was setting records (or close to it), turns out they were doping. Regina Jacobs.
I hope he is clean. As of right now there is no evidence of anything amiss. However we have been disappointed so many times, by so many athletes, it is hard to take anything at face value.
Looking forward to it all being fun again and getting excited about these type of performances instead of just wondering if we are being suckered.

Former 10k record holders excelling at the marathon later in life seems logical to me.
38 year old RUNNING THE 5TH FASTEST INDOOR 3K EVER seems a little odd to me.
If Lagat was from another country everyone would be singing a different tune right now.

Look, this is nonsense if you actually have a sense of Lagat's career. He ran 3:26 in the 1500 in his prime, and his best 1500 last year was 3:34. In fact, look at what's happened to his 1500 since that 3:26, and you'll see a nice consistent loss of speed. Yearly SBs from 2001:

If you want to argue that Lagat's earlier times were doped, that's fine. However, to claim that his times haven't gotten worse when they very clearly have is just ignorance. His 5k has improved because he never focused on it in his prime. Here's the reality: he is a 3:33-34 guy with the endurance to go with it, much like Rupp last year (actually worse endurance).
