Doubt he has the speed endurance Coe had, though. Coe emphasized that heavily in his training. If you look at Coe's PRs at the shorter distances when he was very young (13-15 yo, see his Dad's book), you get the impression he didn't have great native speed. He developed it over time.

I'll try to dig up the posting here that said Bekele ran repeats in the 22s.

Notice that Bekele picked up some white stuff (paper?) on the bottom of his right shoe between 1,800 and 1,900 meters, and he ran much of the remainder of the race with it stuck there.

So Ventolin, what does your magic calculator say he would have run without that stuff stuck to his shoe?

Ventolin, he's saying that there is not just one kind of speed endurance. There is a speed endurance for sprinters and a speed endurance for distance runners.

Seriously? People are still posting about lactic acid buildup being a limiting factor? This was so thoroughly debunked so long ago that I can't believe folks here still talk about lactic acid as if it is relevant to anything.

billy was a 19y ole kid with an ~ 1'47pb at the time & he was running as the pacer
