I actually thought he was good in Bull Durham and acceptable in No Way Out. Everything else he's been wooden and terrible.

I think a lot of what he says intentionally sounds awkward and I think he purposefully accents syllables weirdly because of his condition. So either he's an amazing actor or an awful actor. I'm going with the former.
The actor has cerebral palsy in real life. I don't think he is trying hard to sell his condition.
He's said before that he exaggerates it because his own condition isn't that bad.

Yeah, I guess I agree with you, mainly because those were the first two movies that I saw him in and enjoyed the movies and his performances, but he effectively is no different an actor in any of his subsequent roles. However, I do believe that, particularly with Dances with Wolves and Bull Durham, his wooden performances are over-shadowed by how great the movies are.

I've seen him do interviews, he doesn't sound or act much differently. I know for sure that he doesn't need leg braces in real life, and I think he said that he does stutter a little more on film and exaggerates his condition. But like I said, he really isn't too much different in real life than on film.

Except that Shatner is perfect as Captain Kirk.
His chewing the scenery is the right kind of performance for the role and the movie.
The dude from That 70s Show in Dead Poets Society... awesome movie, but the scene where he figures out his son kills himself is acted so terribly it shouldn't be allowed to exist.
Kim Basinger in The Natural. Her scenes are almost tough to watch.
Most of the lead actors in every Michael Mann movie. Think of Al Pacion in "Heat" and the actors in "Miami Vice".
In fairness the problem is the writing and the directing. The actors in question are probably doing as good of job as they can trying to bring life to their character.
Yet overall "Heat" really is a classic movie.
Michael Mann did LOTM and that Tom Cruise movie with the title that escapes me. Both were great.
Lorraine Bracco in Goodfellas.
Good call on Bassinger in The Natural. In the category of horrific acting, it's an underrated performance, if that makes sense.

I always thought Matt Damon is wooden is a plank in anything he's been in. His expression barely changes whatever happens, I think those Bourne movies are overated anyway
