Galen Rupp ain't got no time for bronchitis.
Sorry, you are wrong. Galen's ceiling is actually 12:41.23. Maybe if everything comes together, he can run a 12:41.22 Best case. I just know these things.

You're the moron who has quickly copied from a wikipedia article. I am brilliant and had no need to consult any source. You have now corrected yourself after being taken to the woodshed by a superior mind, and after receiving the warranted intellectual beating, you now attempt to correct yourself with juvenile ad hominem attacks to distract from your paucity of knowledge. Your attempt to describe the First Amendment is obviously a cut and paste job, and your mind is clearly second-rate. It doesn't take me long to size up a mind, and I feel empathy for the fact that your pedestrian mind is so trailing in the wake of my palpable intellectual horsepower.
To sum up, you, after being admonished by your superior, have changed your mind about one needing to be a renowned distance coach as a prerequisite to analyzing an athlete's potential, and furthermore have consulted a source to attempt to appear knowledgeable concerning the First Amendment, but only after being exposed for the ignorant fool that you are.
Hahahahaha... is that you South Park Mexican? I'd recognize those syzurp induced lyrical rantings anywhere. Aren't you dead or in prison?
Clifford Diffley wrote:well, you have been correct before with your calculator, so I hesitate to argue, but it seems to me his present potential is right around 12'50 - possibly slightly under. I'd like to see how you determine 12'45 once more.
nonetheless, the troll who started this thread (and all of those other ridiculous ones about Rupp) hasn't a clue if he really thinks 12'55 is his present potential.
after i predicted 12'45 for him, young geb ran 12'46 in paris with a 54 finish
that at even pace with still quicker paced 4th km wouda been near 12'40 ( with the other 2 guys probably at 12'42/12'43 - young geb2 & isiah )
i doubt very much now that rupp is more than coupla secs behind the 2nd/3rd guys, which woud offer him ~ 12'45 in a perfect race
he might not go anywhere close to 12'45 today, but that is his potential

Of course, there has been some chatter about Galen attempting to break the U.S. 5000m record tomorrow in Zurich. This is not going to happen, as Galen's ceiling at 5000m is 12:55. Now even some of you dimwits can ascertain that if one's ceiling is 12:55, it is quite difficult to run 12:53. Galen will struggle tomorrow to even break 13, but I am not ruling out that he sets a personal best. Bernard Lagat is going to be ahead of Galen, and Galen will do well to finish in the top 8. Now that I have spoken, there is not much to do but wait for the unfolding of the obvious which I have written above.
SHUT UP
What time does the race take off?

People like A Duck believe both (a) that Rupp was "coughing his lungs out" with severe bronchitis just last week and therefore couldn't finish a 1500 he chose to start and (b) he can run the AR today.
A Duck wrote:
Listen asshat, I haven't commented on Rupp's bronchitis, so don't mis-represent me.
I will now say this, bronchitis can last a month or longer.
So I have no opinions or predictions on what Rupp may do, he could very well DNS.
Thank you for the medical information. That fact is EXACTLY why expecting anything special from Rupp today would be moronic...IF he had actually had legitimate bronchitis. WHICH HE DIDN'T.
With real bronchitis, Rupp wouldn't have even started. The guy has DNSed based on pollen count, remember? He's not exactly an athlete who has to be pulled kicking and screaming out of the stadium by doctors.
You can believe that Rupp was actually ill in Birmingham and that he won't perform today (your opinion), or you can believe that he wasn't really that ill and will be amazing today (my hope). But you can't logically state that he was truly ill last week AND is going to be near the AR today, as many fanboys are doing.
You're even stupider and more immature than you sound.
Unless you are Rupp's doctor, or in his body, you can't know the severity of Rupp's bronchitis.
Additionally, across the number of races Rupp has run, there is nothing in his record to connote anything other than caution when he doesn't start or withdraws from a race.
His record of finished records and NCAA and USA titles and an Olympic Silver far outshine your ass carping about him not finishing a race or two across a career.
The guy is a 10,000m specialist, do you have any idea what kind of toughness it takes to run that race as many times as he does?
What about tripping and rolling on his ass in the half marathon and getting up scraped and bruised and taking third there.
Of course your illogical, and immature hate don't want to credit any of the successes of the man.
Clifford Diffley wrote:I'd like to see how you determine 12'45 once more
this was a prelim line of fit
51.8 / 1'48.8 ->
3'32.84
4'49.19
7'25.18
12'45.93
26'36.85
he ran 3'34.7 this year whilst still in training for upcoming trials & somewhat "obstructed" in straight by andrews, preventing full sprint
evened out, that was 3'34.2 & easily 1+s faster when in peak form/faster pace/unobstructed
his 26'48 last year was 26'43/26'44 at even-pace & it was not an ambitious race with only pacing aimed at 26'50
he was capable of 26'40 last year if they had actually aimed for at least a 26'40 pre-race aim
i seriously doubt he's any slower this year
if he has high-3'32/26'35+ in him at his peak, then 12'45 is possible

Listen, steaming pile of excrement... It is notable that you don't take responsibility for misrepresenting my comments.
Easiest thing in the world to sit around and lie about other people and talk sh!t while accomplishing nothing in your life, isn't it?
You're type: Talk sh!t about Rupp before he accomplishes something great like Olympic silver, and then hide until he has an blip, and then come out of hiding and talk sh!t again.
Pathetic and cowardly. Just grow up and take your hate elsewhere.
Rupp does indeed have a chance, by the way. A good chance. Just a thought.

SPMBLNPF,
Your true intellect is vastly inferior to that which your demented imagination has fabricated. Need I bring up the myriad times you have been wrong about Galen before? Does the though of an Olympic silver medal cramp your bowels?
For such a self-proclaimed genius (implying unmatchable awareness, of which self-awareness must be included), you have quite the poor track-record, both in predictive ability and humility upon failure.
So congratulations, you are capable of stating with confidence that "An immensely talented distance runner who I ultimately envy for their ability and fortitude will NOT set an American record in a late-season race after a very long racing year in which he:
1) has already peaked, exceeding all of my own expectations and proving me wrong, and
2) has recently contracted a respiratory infection."
What absolute GENIUS predictive ability you display; may we bow at your feet. Ni**a please.

I wouldn't be surprised if nobody breaks 12:53 tonight.
The Coverage and the Race sucked... nobody cares about the Jav for 5 minutes, nobody cares about the Kenyan girl that stepped out of bounds during a steeple, and nobody cares about the womans long jump. There is a a reason the 5000m was the last Diamond event at this meet, so show the damn race.

There is not even any chance of Rupp breaking 13:10, because he's suffering from low HCT, which was obvious from his 1500 dnf. That was no injury or lung problem, it was anemia. Rupp's pre-London dope has worn off.
Looks like I was spot on. Rupp proved me slightly wrong by barely breaking 13:10. But right by anemically dropping off the back of the pack with 2 laps left.

The OP got it right. Rupp struggled to break 13 as he ran 13:09. Rupp would have done well to finish in the top 8. Rupp finished 9th. Lagat beat Rupp. Check, check, check.
