Since a few people have mentioned it, when was the last time Rupp DNFed (aside from that nasty fall he took last summer)? People make it seem like he has a huge habit of it.

Because he isn't Pre - he runs with his brain, not his 'heart'. Salazar's plan for Galen has always been a long-term one. A ways back I remember seeing an interview with Salazar where he explains that Rupp is instructed to drop out of a race if he thinks there is a possibility of injury.

Centro is The Man. As I've told you people, he will be the best mile/1500 guy on the planet within 2 years. Count on it.

If you watch the Flotrack interview, Centrowitz explains that he came in feeling like crap in the warm-up and for a good bit of the race. I think he and Galen were both suffering through a little post-Olympic fatigue, but because Centro's season has opened more recently due to that injury, he was able to push through it. Or he's just got bigger balls than Galen.

His PR was 3:34.46 from Monaco last year.

Honestly, not to be arrogant, but did you just make that up?

The LRFBs do not like the fact that Rupp is intelligent about his racing and will not show up if pollen count or conditions might prevent him from competing at the top level. Distance runners only have so many good races in their legs before age and injury force them out of the sport. Rupp understands the big picture and is not out to be a hero for internet message board dweebs at the expense of his long term career. The result is that Rupp is now one of the greatest US distance runners with a bright future on the track and marathon.

It still amazes me how thick some Yanks are. The last time I checked Galen Rupp like Manzano won an Olympic medal, that is all that matters. Well done to Centro but Manzano and Rupp have the medals and thats all that counts in an Olympic year. No more of these ifs or buts.

It often amazes many of us Yanks at how dim some Yanks are. Even when confronted with fact the light does not always turn on.

1:47x is ok if you are a mile/5k type, but certainly not if you are a 800/mile type. Lagat and E'G were only 1:45x 800m runners. With that said, there is a limit to how fast Centro will get in mile until he gets faster in the 800m and he is probably close to that limit now.

without even knowing durden's post, it woud be obvious to an experienced eye that komen wouda been around 1'47 shape in '96

( he probably was in ~ 7'19.0 shape in rieti as 1st km was too fast & he had "tired" 13'00 in his legs from just 2/7 before

anyhows, 1'47.0 as prelim estimate for his '96 shape looks pretty damn good when it's "stated" 1'47.3 for a guy with no pro experience of how to run an ideal 800 )
