75 seconds the first lap, 2:24 at 800 meters, no wonder she fell again.

I told my friend they were running too slow and that someone would fall.

Why people run so stupidly is a mystery, especially in an Olympic event.

Hmm, maybe because she knew it was over. She did finish after the fall in Daegu but this fall was HARD, and unbelievable. Haven't you ever been so frustrated that you wanted to hit something? Most of the above would apply to Nate Brannen as well. If you've seen his post-race interview, he is absolutely devastated, but he still managed to get back up and catch up to the pack and run a 3:39, even though he couldn't kick with them at the end. This was also the Olympic final, not some semi or near-meaningless local race, where dropping out would be more understandable. I can understand her reaction, but I would have respected her a lot more if she'd gotten back up and given the last lap her all.

One second prior to this photo Uceny was running in the middle of lane 2 and Aregawi was in the inside part of lane 2, her left foot stepped just outside of the white line. In this photo Uceny's has moved more inside and forced Aregawi to do the same,notice where her right foot was landing.

Does seem to be a problem here. She does not adapt to tight traffic.... Yes in a slow race run on the outside of the rest of the pack, to stay clear, IN THE LAST LAP especially. We do not have eyes in the back of our heads and it takes a split second for someone behind to move to your heel....just as you decide to move out. So the answer is to stay outside. Many last lap sprint races have been won by the runner that stayed in lane 2 or 3. If you are fresh and ready to sprint the extra 3 or 4 yards are worth the win.

Too many people here are blaming the slow, tactical race or other runners rather than Uceny's own mistakes. If she wanted to avoid this, she should have positioned herself in the front from the beginning. If not, at least work your way up near the front with a lap to go. Very poor tactics in race where tactics mean everything. I want to feel sorry for Morgan and in many ways I do, but there is only so much sympathy I can dole out to a competitor who didn't set themselves up for the best chance to win.

It's pretty damning evidence that it's entirely Uceny's fault. She kicks the Ethiopian runner, who is off to the left and behind, with her left foot. Uceny's left foot bounces of the Ethiopian's thigh, and into Uceny's own right calf, causing her to fall, and Uceny almost takes out the Kenyan and the Ethiopian runner.

Nobody clipped Uceny's heel or any of that nonsense. She literally kicked herself in the calf and fell down.

Could you please tell me what your opinion is on how Uceny fell down?

do you mean in the front so you are in position for someone behind you to clip your feet? kind of like exactly what happened today in lane 2? you are aware that your post is moronic?

A REAL athlete wouldn't fall from such a simple trip or push - plain and simple. I hate uncoordinated runners. Have some agility for pete's sake!

Both Uceny and Rowbury showed very cowardly and stupid tactics. A disgrace to the country. Rowbury: No chance whatsoever in a slow opening-fast closing race. No kick. She knows that. So she followed along at 2:24 for 800m like a lamb being led to the slaughter. Uceny was even dumber. Long strides that easily get clipped in a tight pack, leading to falls. She *deserves* having her butt on the track for the 2nd year in a row. Then she showed cowardice for not even getting up and competing.

Both women disgraced themselves and this country.

Same for our 5000m competitors. Went out at snail's pace, both of them knowing full well they had *no chance* in fast finish. So they did the lamb-to-the-slaughter routine and ended up being smeared into the track like inconsequential fleas.

Would it kill any of ém to run at a hard, even pace? Of course not. The argument of breaking the wind for others is a laugher. How many world records have been set by runners out on their own, lap after lap?

Again...the answer is our runners are *cowards.* Training and sacrificing for all those years for THIS? Jog for a few laps, then either get tripped or get your butts handed to you?

Why didn't she get up and finish the race? She immediately gave up and went into pissy - get the F up and finish the race. What will she tell her grand kids?

I was screaming get up, get up! There is more to running than medals. RUN faster! I know it is sad, and sucks ass, but you got to get up and try. 45.9 on a broken leg, that is how you do it.

Since you obviously know nothing about the impact of a fall during a race like that, you should probably rethink your post and just shut up. Your legacy to lets Run will be this idiotic post, and the next time you think about posting, you should remember this event and not do it

Couldn't agree more. She could have been remembered for getting up and making a gutsy effort to get back in the race, but instead that image of her slamming her hands on the track will be the one that sticks with her.
