I bet those guys in the Florida Track Club or Boston Track Clubs could do 100 push-ups between them. But they had a lot of guys running some darn fast times.

It makes me dumb to do strength work? I also do yoga. My body feels better for it. My coach in college always said anyone can go out and jog everyday it takes an athlete to do the small extras(stretching, cross training). You may think running 100 plus a week is cool but most hobby runners i kmow can do that.Hell I have run lithia loop marathon course in Ashland while drunk on vodka (whop-di-doo)without stopping. Nobody, including myself cared when I got back to Lithia Park because just because I ran far it meant nothing. No athletic feat. WHY?
ANYONE CAN RUN
Avoiding injury, longevity, and speed should be the goal of any runner and that is greatly complimented by x training.

The benefits of stretching, yoga and "core" training are all in your head,
I'll bite...Maybe it is all in my head. Maybe yoga and cardio weight lifting and swimming is not benefiting my running. In the least it fills the time thats left when I have to back off from running because something doesn't feel right. If "Core Work is a scam" I'm neither a sucker to that scam or a looser for giving into it. I have yet to meet a runner who runs over 80 miles per week who hasn't had either A: been injured, or B: had to back off training a bit.
What's the difference between going to a PT and doing their routines or doing versions of those routines before your screwed with an injury.
What can a runner possible loose by being proactive?
Dream of being a competitive runner/triathlete plan on being a life long runner/triathlete.
