First off, you fools should be thanking Omaha for taking on the Club meet. Sacramento's organization of the World Masters Meet was a travesty, with 3,000 fewer athletes attending than normal for WMA meets. The Organizer, (all but defunct)Sacramento Sports Commission, went a half million in debt with that meet alone.
This puzzles me. In the first sentence you say that we should be thanking Omaha for taking on the club meet. In the second, you bash Sacto for taking on the world masters meet. Seems you're talking about of both sides of your mouth on this one. 3000 fewer athletes can't be pinned on poor organization...how would athletes know in advance of this problem? It would only become apparent when you were attending. I was there and many international athletes cited the poor economy as the reason why lots of their teammates had to take a pass. WMA meets are very well attended when they are in Europe, since it's a cheaper trip for most of the athletes (masters track is much bigger in Europe than it is in U.S.). Yes, they lost money...a lot of money. I'm not debating that. But as a visitor to Sacto I found lots of decent options for accomodations and restaurants; much more so than for Eugene.
