Stop running for free. No more IAAF meets for USATF. USATF has only pro meets foe elites.

Except that the athletes are not employees of USATF the way the players are in the NFL, NBA, etc. It wouldn't matter if the USATF pulled out of the IAAF if they couldn't force their athletes to go with them, which is likely.
If some insane billionaire created a good pro league that offered contracts that paid better than the current system then you would attract top athletes. Until then athletes will keep doing what puts food on the table, which is going after shoe contracts and competing in the existing system.
Anyhow, good luck to Siegel.
I could not agree more.
USOC relies on NCAA for their medal winners. UCLA, USC, Stanford, Texas, and Berkeley are the top five Olympic schools in the NCAA. USOC just writes the press releases.
1. Pull out of IAAF, cancel USATF participation in IAAF worlds, Diamond League, etc.
Agreed. Maximillian needs to establish a new league for elite distance runners, sprinters, etc. The old IAAF model is dead, confirmed by the recent Picky Bar logo atrocity.
If Max is going to make it as CEO he has to do something original for our sport and not keep us as peons under the IAAF Mafia. I mean look at the un-American conditions the Diamond League has USATF athletes under. The IAAF should be banned from the borders of the United States.
Seriously any USATF CEO is in a box because of the IAAF as relates to pro meets. How do you fix the Adidas Grand Prix or any of the IAAF sanctioned meets. I wish the IAAF had someone leading it who was more savvy.
Adidas at Mt Hood and Home Depot did not agree with IAAF terms and survived until the recession. Home Depot would not agree to pay bribes to IAAF bigwigs for IAAF World Cup 2006 at Carson. It's up to Max Siegel to bring back those meets and get USATF out of the IAAF altogether. Realize that USATF is the #1 T&F team in the world and with the Hollywood TV networks can start it's own professional international league. Together with Congress, USATF should move to ban the IAAF from the United States due to illegal trade restrictions on athletes.
You white racists are just jealous of home boy popping that big black bootay of .... ;-)
Check out this: http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2012/03/26/In-Depth/Clutter.aspx?hl=olympic%20sponsor&sc=0Look to the bottom of the page in the section where this quote is to be found:
What this means is that the television exposure of the GREATEST TRACK AND FIELD TEAM ON THE PLANET, IN AN OLYMPIC YEAR has resulted in a sponsor recall efficiency below Women's Basketball and High School sports...
Better get busy, Max. How about instead of setting targets for the athletes, which you don't control, you set some targets which you do? I'll propose one: 3 in 2012! See if you can bring onboard as few as 3 new major sponsors this year?

I doubt Siegel is the guy they romanticized filling the job. Realistically he is somebody with ties to the organization who can at least do some good immediately. Why is the necessary? Because the Olympics is in four months. Yes, four months. They needed somebody ASAP.
They can reevaluate after the Olympics whether or not this guy should continue and hopefully they'll have enough time between Olympic bouts to hire a new one if this doesn't work as hoped.
Whatever happens in London cannot be credited or blamed on him. It is 97 days out. What do you really expect him to be able to do?
I seriously doubt that had the position not been filled it would make one iota of difference in the performance of US athletes.
The US tax code is a bigger obstacle in bringing world class track and field to the US than a new stadium.
Soccer fans do not like being that far from the field either.

3. Start a T&F Pro TV Network. HQ in L.A.
Put down the pipe.
How does USATF leave IAAF---that would also mean an end to US involvement in the Olympics. Yeah, that would help the sport.
A TV network needs sponsors to pay advertising dollars or be popular enough to command high fees from cable/sat.
Pro league needs money.
According to a survey done by Georgia State students in the mid90s, NASCAR fans are the most brand loyal of any fans. If their favorite driver changes sponsors from say Tide to Clorox, they are far more likely to change as well.
I like a lot of runners, but I am not buying my running shoes based on what Lagat or Meb wear.

Probably High Performance (a branch of USATF)
To disassociate with teh IAAF is silly. In addition, USATF is in charge of the sport in the US from "cradle to grave". It's not just about the pros.
When they wanted a Director of High Performance & Sport Medicine , they scoured the country and came up with someone from...Indianapolis ;)Looks like the best of the best are within a couple blocks from USATF headquarters.

Isn't the director of High Performance Sue Humphrey?
I think the bigger issue is how much money was spent on a search committee and an outside advisory agency that came up with one of their own as the best choice, after what.... 18 months of work???

Actually that is Rob Chapman, PhD and he was Indiana U which is in Bloomington. You might want to do a little research to see his background. He could be very good in this position. (I think he already has been).
