Yawn, put Rodgers, Salazar, Shorter and company in a race with G. Mutai, E. Mutai, and Makau. If those "old school" guys try to hang for even 10 miles they'll be lucky to finish the race.

I like where you're taking this. Point is: Ryan Hall is not even top 5 all time in terms of American marathoning. 1) Salazar 2)Rodgers 3)Rupp 4)Beardsley 5)Khalid 6)Ryan Hall. That's generous; Deena Kastor could give him a run for his money just based off past performances.

I don't think Ryan Hall is America's greatest marathoner either, but this list is ridiculous. First of all, Rupp hasn't even run one marathon yet, so calling him the third-greatest of all time seems a bit premature. Second, where the hell is Shorter? The dude wins gold in 72, silver (probably should have been gold, Cierpinski was likely a doper) in 76 and he doesn't get a spot? What the hell has Beardsley ever done? He ran 2:09 at Grandma's, had an epic race against Salazar at Boston and did basically nothing after that. Meb, on the other hand, wins NYC and gets silver at Athens but also gets snubbed.

I think a better top 5 would be (considering how competitive they were in their respective eras):

1. Shorter

2. Rodgers

3. Khannouchi

4. Salazar

5. Meb

6. Hall

Victories > 5th place fast times. The marathon is changing. 2:06 is meaningless nowadays and Ryan Hall hasn't done anything to indicate he can even do that anymore.
