it has not! now you take that back right now!
seriously, do some research. kara raved about him and his workouts.
alberto clueless about the marathon? now i've heard it all. and it's been proven over and over. are you in high school or junior high?

List Alberto's many MARATHON coaching successes? I can name several failures.
Chad Johnson
Josh Rohatinsky
Phillemon Hanneck
Dathan Ritzenhein
Mike Donnelly
Dan Browne ran his PR in the marathon 6 weeks after joining the Oregon Project. He then got worse in every marathon including a 2:27 in the Olympics and New York.
Kara ran a nice debut and could not equal that performance until the Boston Tailwind (which was only a minute faster than her debut).
Salazar and Schumacher both have similar results coaching the marathon. Looking at those results only, Kara is moving sideways.
Maybe having female training partners will make the difference for her.
I agree about Alberto being "clueless" about coaching people for the marathon. His track record is not great. Kara and Dan Browne are the only athletes he has ever coached that have excelled at the marathon (that I know of).
But given how "bad" people make Kara out to be... I guess the only good person he has coached is Dan. And the argument could be made that Dan was good before, and after Alberto... PR'ing in his debut before really being that influenced by AlSal.
Alberto, based on his results, is a GREAT 5k/10k track coach. There is nothing wrong with that. He is arguably the best 5k/10k track coach in the country. However, he has tried with quite a few athletes in the marathon and has had relatively poor success. How fast did the following individuals run in the marathon before Alberto, during Alberto, and after Alberto?
Karl Keska
Mike Donnelly
Chad Johnson
Phillimon Hanneck
Dave Davis
Dan Browne.
Dathan Ritzenhein
Kara Goucher
I'm sure there are a lot more people that I don't remember or know about, but the successes have been limited. By my count, 1 out of every 4 people who Alberto trains for the marathon runs well. That just doesn't sound that great to me.
If my data is wrong, let me know. I'm genuinely interested if there are more successes that I don't know about. Just because he was a stud, and obviously knew what worked FOR HIM, does not make him a good coach. I never said he is clueless about the marathon, but he SEEMS as though he is clueless on how to train people for it (other then himself).
This coming from a guy who thinks Kara is pretty awesome.
These haters are the biggest needledicks in running. Kara is a nice girl who wants to win just like everybody else. They are also spreading a lot of misinformation on here in what amounts to a smear campaign against the Gouchers.
1. Gouchers are moving to Colorado. (NOT)
2. Gouchers got kicked out of Mammoth by Deena and Amy. (NOT)
3. Kara's comments about wanting to be competitve are twisted. (par for the course here)
4. Adam Goucher sucked.
13.11.25, 7:34.96 just out of college.
6th at IAAF World 4K cross
1998 NCAA cross champion (beat Lagat, Meb, Abdi)
8:12 2-mile at Pre in the rain
MANY more
5. Kara has no chance at making the team / being competitive. (Now you're just being boring)
There are so many pathetic liars on here. Keep chasing your tails guys, because you trolls have no idea what the hell you're talking about and you are the ones who have ZEROP credibility and give this message board a bad name.
Your Chad Johnson example is not fair, hey you asked. It's not Alberto's fault, nor is it Kevin or Keith's, it's a simple fact that has been explained to death in this thread. Chad is simple not that good.
I could care less one way or the other about the Gouchers, but it is obvious that you are biased to the nth degree!
I too disagree that Adam and Kara have to take a lot of heat on this site, but who cares?
Gouchers moving? Gouchers kicked out?
You are far too involved to let trolls bother you, that much is certain.
As far as Adam's races, most of those are in the past, aka his best days are behind him. You know he doesn't suck, right? So then why let it bother you?
He has a slim chance because he at least should be on the starting line. Making the top 3 is outside at best.
Kara has no chance at being competitive? I just read through this whole thread and I never saw anyone say that.
You need thicker skin Gouchers fan, much thicker.
Hopefully, Jerry will not tolerate Kara's insatiable need for attention and will assist her with dealing in reality.
She's very insecure.

She is a vigorous self promoter because she has a blog that she discusses her running. People read the blog. She is popular so the press interviews her. When she enters a race, the media get excited.
The blog is not the extent of her self-promoting. The Gouchers and their agent seek all sorts of publicity (see Adam's book/blog venture, Adam's numerous comeback declarations, etc.) RnR pub appearances, the coaching change whisper campaign (seemed to be orchestrated), her women's running guide, the product endorsements. I don't begrudge her any of it, it's her right as a player in the marketplace to maximize her share. Meb does the same thing. However, many find it distasteful even when Meb, a bonafide champion, does it. Right about the time that she chose to make her pregnancy a story for public consumption I decided to give her as little of my attention as possible. Nothing against her (or Meb or anyone else like that), just not my style. I am trying to come up with someone in another pro sport who is as self-promoting as her and all I can come up with is LeBron James. He has earned both fans and detractors as a result. Anyway, this is simply to say that while I can understand why people might react with distaste to the constant publicity seeking I am not an attacker at all. I just give her as little of my attention as possible. If she runs out of her gourd and gets on the team in Houston then I will be happy for her and her family and if she doesn't then so be it.
I certainly would not be happy for her at all and could care less. I'd rather see Shalane, Desi and anyone else. Kara has taken too much attention away from them and the changing of the guard(s) is about to take place.
Why is Kara any more important than the other ladies vying for the top 3 spots? What has she done that makes her someone who should be on the team? Sorry, she has to earn it or go home.
My post went over your head. I did not express an opinion of Kara Goucher's career.

Not a peanut gallery. Kara Goucher is not going to make the team in the marathon and repeating what others have said, she will run Boston and then the 5,000 or 10,000 to get there. It's called long distance running marketing 101.
The ? is where will you be when the peanut gallery is right? In addition, if they are right, what does that make you?
Do you think you are more educated on the subject, please do share you "expert" opinion as we are all waiting.
mplatt and smd know nothing more than the rest of us, just another opinion. Chew on that this glorious morning.
Over my head? Hardly. You think far too highly of yourself mplatt. Do you know what an innuendos is? Read between the lies Leon, read between the lines. Your opinion on the subject would not be regarded very highly so you stay on the sidelines throwing a pebble here or there, just to let us know you're awake. Off you go!
8.5 on the return! Welcome to LR as I you "HAVE TO" be new here. mplatt throws an insult your way and you gave it back. Touche':)
Huh? Are you reading the same words that I wrote? I was only writing to smd about how and when he uses his highly developed writing skill-set.Had I wrote an opinion about racing I do think some would read it, some would understand it, some would agree, some would disagree.Speaking of writing and reading between the lines. You seem to think you know me. You seem to be angry with me. What did I do or say to you to create this malice? Is there anything I can do to repair it?

My sincere apologies. I overreacted. Sorry.

I understand. I've done it myself. We're good.

Isn't this the same sport that Nick Symmonds and his 12,000 Facebook friends believe doesn't offer enough income opportunities?

Wow, that's a bold statement. The only thing to make that statement better is if you added, "or she could stay about the same."
Salazar's training team was\is a mess, they'd text each other fighting about stupid stuff at meets up until race time, this includes Galen Rupp. Who can be successful with all that drama going on, eventually it wears you out. This is a great move for Kara and Amy Yoder should follow in her footsteps. If you don't know Jerry and are making comments about his training and his personality I think you should do more homework. Not only is Jerry a great coach but he's one of the nicest people you'll meet on this earth. He's very positive and does NOT like drama and does not promote it like Salazar. The two training groups are so different I don't have time to explain.
In the end the best thing for Nike would be for Salazar to step aside and let Jerry take over the entire thing which was the original plan. I don't think that will ever happen however which is unfortunate. At some point Jerry will get fed up with the drama and move on.

No. That sport is called TRACK. This sport is called MARATHON ROAD RACING.
