I respect this argument if we consider that developing a sport in a country must begin with local talent. The major concession you must make is that sympathy for AVERAGE U.S. runners is a null argument. I accept that developing local talent is important, however with the multitude of schools nationally, how many runners worth developing (substantial potential) will miss out on training with a decent squad.
The assertion that EKU is sbupar academically is another argument that is testament to the transparency of the identity of the outdated individuals contributing to this post. Maybe you should check the list of the OVC Commissioner's awards from the last few years and maybe dig a little deeper to their countries of origin. As plain facts are clearly not obvious to narrow-minded individuals such as yourselves, I would also add that I am foreign, heading my team (men's Cross Country) for GPA while volunteering as a tutor for AMERICAN students and serving as president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Tomorrow, after my morning run, I am taking time out of my classes to travel to Manchester EKU campus to talk to AMERICAN kids about the importance of a college education. The reason I do all these is because the College system has given me a great opportunity for which I am most grateful.
Also, maybe you should enquire as to the amount of hours failed by football students per semester before you attack the academic integrity of foreign students. My guess is football doesn't stack up to Cross Country which has an average GPA over 3.0 as well as a letter of recommendation this year for academic progress. Oh, and i'm quite sure that the most successful student on the football team is the only foreigner; an Aussie Jordan Berry who is my good mate and in good enough form to punt for any NFL team at the moment.
To everyone who slanders foreign teams, go ahead. If your rhetoric is that coaches should recruit slower, less academically successful athletes who are not as willing to give back to their respective communities, I would be interested to see your proposal. Needless to say, your argument lacks weight and is underpinned by the inherent nationalist racism that defines a large majority of the United States population. Those U.S. realists that support foreign athletes, I thank you and appreciate your support, the exact way that i make sure to thank each and every supporter of our cross country team at every meet. Also, I shake the hand of every competitor that crosses that line, because they are exactly that, a competitor. NOT a foreigner. NOT and American. NOT black. NOT white. Just a fellow runner; A lifestyle (not a sport as is commonly assumed) that we all share.
