JWAF, Since you want to hate on a 26:48 performance so badly, you will no doubt be bummed to learn that the all-time list does not have the same feelings as you. Such is life, some run 26:48, and some waste that much energy "hating!"

I wouldn't be surprised if it was all just a ploy
you are right buddy, being the 16th fastest ever in a crazy deep event is no breakthrough. you are truly an idiot. get off the boards you clown

The thing about track is that times DO NOT LIE. If someone has a better time, they are better in that individual event. There is absolutely no other way to measure it. I think anyone who reads this thread will get dumber because of you.
Granted that Jesse's posts are inane and this thread is pure trolling but this ^ is perhaps even more inane (if that is possible).
Proof - How many guys in the US have better times at 1500/mile than Centro? Now how many guys in the US are better at 1500/mile than Centro?

IF you consider that Galen Rupp never led a step of the race and that the race was in Brussels, where 18 of the fastest 29 10000m performances have been achieved, and that the race was on September 16th instead of May 1st, it is clear that Solinsky's race was as good. However, kudos to Galen Rupp, as I knew he'd likely break 27 one day, but still don't think he has proven he can match Solinsky's 5000 pb. This is NOT a big breakthrough effort. Solinsky could have run this fast last year. Having said that, way to go Galen Rupp. You will never run faster than today, but so what? You made the fanboys happy...
If. Never. However. Still don't think. NOT a big breakthrough effort. Never.
Translation: You're an idiot.
According to Greg McMillan's Running Calculator Rupp's 26:48 is a 12:54 5k equivalent. However, Solinsky's 12:55 is a 26:50 10k equivalent.

jesse was a friend wrote:No, I have PROVED that he could have last summer. Obviously Rupp was not capable of 26:48 IF you go by your lousy logic. Don't you understand? Solinsky's 12:55 was superior to his 26:59 BECAUSE that day he could have run 26:48 BECAUSE he is a better 10000m runner than 5000m runner. So is Rupp. I am DONE with you morons.
You have PROVED that Solinsky "could" have run?!! Hahaha what a joke!
I will now prove that Rupp can win an Olympic medal. Then I will prove that Rupp can run a 12:54. Today he ran 26:48. Clearly he is in great shape. If he had run the 5000, he would have run it in 12:54.
There! I just did.
Now rupp has both records

You're retarded. His performance is 11 seconds better than Solinsky's. It's easily measured.
And I hate this "could have" bull crap. I had a kid at my high school that went on and on about what people "could have" done. If you worked for me, I'd fire you on the spot if you pulled that crap in your job.

Well, you can't have it both ways, fanboy. Galen apparently is not able to run well when it really counts...
And how many times have Solinsky run well "when it really counts"?
Solinsky one summer wonder. 10k was a fluke.
He will not run this fast again. Coulda woulda shoulda dont show in the record books.
Judging by the literary deduction, anecdotal evidence, attitude and overall negative feelings about Rupp, I'm guessing "Jesse was a friend" is really........CV

I am clearly correct as usual. However, Galen Rupp is one helluva runner. Of course he'll never medal. So what? Let's appreciate him for what he is.
I believe Galen Rupp is capable of running the U.S. record for the marathon. There...I said it. However, he will NEVER medal in WC or Olympic track and field.
I'm just wondering, are you an American? If you are, why do you say that he'll never medal? Do you not want him to? Just root for the guy. Nobody cares if you're right or not.
My track personal bests were at the end of track season, in May.Maybe Solinsky could have run better, but he didn't.26:48 from 27:11 is a huge breakthrough, and way superior to 26:59. Not long ago, the American record was 27:18. Rupp ran 30 seconds faster than that.Harder to compare two races on different days, at different distances, but my calculator equates 26:48 to 12:48.44. Solinsky has to break that. I'm not sure Rupp will train for a 5K anymore though. The ball is Solinsky's court.Rupp deserves all the praise that Solinsky got for breaking 27:00 and crushing the American record.

Here's how stupid these morons are. They all think that Galen Rupp is not capable of running faster than 13:06, because has not done it. That's how stupid these people are, and I am no longer going to lower myself and my palpable brilliance by interacting with them.
You are a retarded idiot. By saying that I PROVED it
I could beat either Rupp or Solinsky. I didn't, but I could have. I would lead every lap. I didn't, but I would if I did.
I DON'T believe Solinsky could have run this fast last summer. But let's check the facts to be sure.
Oh, look at that. He didn't.
I don't have a favorite in this debate, but I do want to add that JWAF is without question the biggest jerk I have seen on any messageboard. That is by far more of a stone-cold lock than his silly assertions that Solinsky coulda-shoulda-woulda done something he's never done.
Really? This is happening right now? A guy runs an American Record, smashes the old one by 11 seconds and the thought crosses our mind that it's not a breakthrough performance?........Really? Why will he never run faster? It's a shame we can sit here in front of a monitor and claim to be experts. If we had any clue what his training is like and the hell he puts himself through in order to compete with the world best we'd keep our mouths shut. When you train at his level, near the peak of what's physiologically possible, all the pieces have to come together perfectly to run a race like this. What if we got to know the guy, interviewed him about his training, asked him about the sacrifices he has had to make. Good luck then telling him it's not a breakthrough performance.
somebody else wrote this too, but saying what the great, awesome, seriously talented and NICE Chris Solinsky "could" run is, well, interesting, but... silly. As someone noted, one of the very best things about running in general and racing in particular is that the truth wins out. You have allergies? You miss an important race. You're a big guy and maybe train too hard at a critical juncture? You get injured (who knows why Solinsky got injured). Chris Solinsky's list of amazing accomplishments isn't yet done, but Galen Rupp came, saw and OBLITERATED Solinsky's achievement, and if you go back to when that happened, Solinsky's AR was AMAZING. So this is better :) 11 seconds better. If in the same race Solinsky, in all his greatness would have been 100 meters back.
