Matt was expected to get 3;34 or so but his 'monster kick' was absent, because the pace was a lot more legit than that 3:47 jog at nationals. So Centro won't have the kick to hang with a real group of racers in a fast race, and he will be outkicked by the many at Worlds who can pull an honest pace.
Uh, no one who has posted (and has been serious) on this thread actually thinks Centro is anywhere near contention at this year's WCs. He's a 21 y.o. American. This year is all about getting experience for next year. And the 8 years after that.
I would be remiss not to address your specific comment about Worlds, though: the WCs 1500 final won't be won in 3:31, unless the Kenyans use a sacrificial lamb. The heats will be slow, sit and kick affairs, and I think we've seen with some certainty how young Matt fares in those types of races. It would be a big deal for Centro to make the WC finals, but I think it's very possible if he can maintain his form for another month.
Wow what happened to Centrowitz?
After getting first at nationals, he got stomped by Manzano, Wheating, Lagat, and finished up in 11th.

I agree with you about holding form. I would add that the biggest obstacles Centro faces in making the WC finals are 1) proper positioning so as to be able to get free and kick in the heats, and 2) being able to handle multiple heats. So far this year he hasn't had a problem with either obstacle.

Way to support your runners
I think he will get the A standard
does anyone here think manzano could drop a sub 13:00 in the 5000 after a few tries?
the guy is tiny and has speed. being so small with less weight than other taller runners i think he could do well.
Frances El, I'm shocked--a well thought out post on LR. What doesn't seem to have sunk in with folks yet is the fact that Centro just set a new NCAA collegiate 1500 all-time record for the 1500, previously held by Sydney Maree. Centro has just joined (and passed) some of the greats like Maree, Cruz and so on.

Sketchy definition of 'stomped' at best.

Centro still looks just as good as Wheating. It looked like Wheating's lead came from being on the inside of Centro on the last curve. Their last 100m was about the same. The top guys in the race were kicking way faster though.
I look forward to Centro running 3:33 or better when he isn't running so much extra distance.

Gees there's nothing you're happy with is there?
What a miserable prk you are.
But he'll be there, and yo9u'll be posting
Lagat - Pro
Manzano - Pro
Wheating - Pro
Centrowitz - NCAA Scholar-Athlete
Matt is competing as an NCAA athlete as well as extending his collegiate season into two professional level events while being a student. The other three are not in school and are just one month into their professional competitive seasons. He is doing very well. I am glad he got his "A" standard in his first european race. He needs to recuperate and rebuild some for now, then gain more European experience in August. His stamina over 5,000 meters and 8,000 meters will serve him well in major events with qualifying 1500 meters rounds.

Well then, my friend, you haven't followed my LRC career. Posts based on logic, insight, and intelligence. I am truly a pearl among swine.
When runners are aiming for a qualifying time, taking risks to win a race are not worth the risk. Three Americans paced properly and got the A standard. Did they push for the win? No, tho Leo may have pushed the most. Worlds are many moons away. Folks thinking these guys pushed to the hilt may be right, but I doubt it. They pushed, but not for the win of the race, but to win the standard. In that sense, all three won.
Come September, after something like 7 weeks prepping, it should not be the same Leo and Andrew and Matt on the starting line if they and their coaches are planning properly. Likely better, and I sure hope so. Congrats to them on cards well played for the challenge of the day, and hope to see cards played well, differently, come Worlds.

There won't be rabbits at worlds, so those guys who choose to lead out the pack in 1:52 aren't really going to doing themselves any favors. I bet Centro continues to impress.

Why was he running so much extra distance?
