I would like to say that for anyone nostalgic for the long faded glory days of Post-Punk MUST check out these albums:

Interpol-Turn on the Bright Lights (lead-singer is Ian Curtis revived)

The Stills- Logic Will Break Your Heart (Mixture of early The Fall and Echo and the Bunnymen)

Franz Ferdinand- (Its dance-punk for a new generation)

The Rapture-Echoes

The Walkman-Bows and Arrows

Also, keep an out for a group of my hometown of Columbia Missouri, Mahhjong and their self-titled debut.

Finally, has anyone heard the latest Grant Lee Phillips, its nice to see him return to the roots that made Fuzzy such a terrific record.

great to see the smiths get some props on a running board btw... after all, morrissey was a very competitive sprinter back in his school days! in his words, "the 100 meters was my raison d'etre".

I will say that Up the Bracket was a terrific debut, although I didn't spooge over as much as the British press did, it was mags like NME hailing them as the next Clash that pushed me towards insanity. Songs like "Vertigo", "Time for Heroes" and the two bonus tracks make me giddy.

By the way, Renegade, what do you think of the Von Bondies lastest effort, "C'mon C'mon" is my pick for one of the best singles of the year.

yeah.... good stuff.. better than 99 percent of what's out there....... still too early to pick the 2004 single of the year imho.. i wanna wait and see what we get in the coming months... patheticaly enough, i would have nominated junior senior's "move your feet" last year... that's how bad a year it was (except for franz f. "take me out")...

don't count moz out yet... rumour is that either "i like you" or "first of the gang to die" will be the next single.. and having heard the studio version of both.. they are PHENOMENAL...

I wasn't familiar with the Eels until I read this thread (at age 50, you don't do much sitting around with your buds listening to tunes), but after listening I've become a fan. E's unique, often humorous perspective on the dark side of life is a work of genius.

I was listening today to "Fashion Show", which has rather funny lyrics, but a rather somber tune which almost sounds like a child's rhyme. I happened to be listening when I saw a picture on the front page of the paper of a 5-year girl crying in her mother's arms at her father's funeral; the father was a 37-year old reservist who had been killed in Iraq. The combination put me in a funk that's lasted most of the day.
