Yeah, that wasn't so great. I'm a huge GF fan and wanted to see something really special. He looked good with 200 to go when he made his move but coming off the last bend he started to get swallowed up and it looks like he gave up. He sort of made a point of stopping and walking the last half step across the line. That's too bad. I hope he pops some amazing times later this season.
every one come the f*** down that mile was nasty!! even Leo been an Olympian came up short! it was anybody's race German give a shot within 200 miters but with all the pushing and shoving cant do anything..
this race was slow as crap, it wasnt even tactical it was that slow. german may have ran a crappy time but so did every1 else because it was slow. he put himself in the mix so thats a plus and he went for it. just didnt have the speed or killer instincts back yet to make it happen.
overall im fine with how he did, crappy time and crappy place aside, he at least put himself in the mix (at least on the third lap) the only thing that disapoints me is how he basically walked to the finish (about 2m before the finish) when he didnt have it won. i think he might have just given up with 150m to go when he realized he wasnt going to win, so thats a negative.
He was pushing quite well at 1300, until his shoelace came untied.

While I do not think that he's "done" like other people have declared, I am curious about his state of mind. I wonder if he even likes running? He was such a phenomenal high school runner who had such natural ability and who blew the competition away. Now that he is in college with some quality runners, I wonder if he even likes to run now that he is getting beat? The whole win or give up mentality is NOT good. He really needs to let go of that if he wants to be successful. He just doesn't seem to have any heart!

100 meters to go, German got his shoe stepped on. A "flat tire". Crossed the line and slid the back of the heel back on. It did seem like he gave up... You can still run hard... Shoe comes off... It comes off, ya know. There was only 100 meters left in the race.

pretty exciting last 200, that's for damn sure. Great job to those top 4 or 5, put on a real good show on the homestretch. Great effort.
Every American who is now good struggled at some point in college, and if they're old enough they struggled afterward. Fernandez is no different. He'll get there. And the assclowns who spout nonsense on letsrun will move on to the next college star.

Yes if I were to talk about Leo I would say almost the same as with GF. He looked totally not ready and I must say he looked like he was training through at least and maybe thats what GF did. Both looked dead legged last 200.
One more point on GF - I think if things go south the next few weeks he has to look to transfer to a situation where he can change his mind set. Might do better in a fresh situation but not one with tons of great guys, just a couple decent guys to challenge some in workouts. I do not think Smith's coaching is cutting it with German. You see this with so many guys who are fine first year in because they have a lot of carryover from HS but then it begins to show - injuries and crap races.
