Look at it this way. The 10k WR is 26:17, or about 7 minutes faster than the 10k from Sunday. So 7 minutes could be gained there (assuming you could convince Bekele to do something like this, of course ;).
At the same time, however, it took about 23:30 to eat the burgers (avg. ~3:55/burger). Let's say someone can knock all 6 down averaging 2:15 / burger (I think doable for some freakish burgerholic out there). That's an improvement of 6 x 2:15 or 13:30, a full 10 minutes faster.
So really I think the most ground is to be gained by the eaters (potentially).
It is stated above Sean McFarland can likely run faster for a straight-up 10K, so in effect he ran this as a "semi-hard" run. I would assume he did not extend himself to run 1.5-2 minutes faster in the 10000 in order to avoid causing maximum distress before eating six Big Macs.
So a 26:17 WR runner could cross the line in the neighborhood of 28:00-15 but at their elite size and weight, can they eat for volume and speed? It would be extraordinarily challenging to find someone serious enough to drop a sub-31:00 10K tempo who would then step off the track and power down six Big Macs. I'd imagine someone could do it in 12-15 minutes but they would have already taken 45-50 minutes around the track for their 10K.
Consuming the six Big Macs with more efficiency is the X-factor here. Can a regular Joe runner with some ability, run say 38:00 and eat/inhale six Big Macs in 15:00? Or perhaps there is a 30:00-low guy who can outeat Sean.
I guess we'll find out when some other guys take a shot at his record.
I'm sure it was said earlier in the thread, but Kobyashi would crush in this event. He's Japanese, so a good distance runner, and probably could do the burgers in 3-5 minutes tops. I think he's got a sub-45:00 in him no problem.
Although posting things more than once doesn't make them true, I will say it again: he killed 5 macs, 5 large fries, and 5 chocolate shakes (back when the shakes were big), when he was only 13 or 14, without slowing down one bit. They gave him the whole thing free because he finished the 5th set.
Dude is huge, though--he goes maybe 6'1" and around 3 bills.

There's no way he'll do it, though--he's losing weight to fulfil the requirements of some photographic assignment he's going on. He's "running" 10k's on a treadmill!!!!!!!!! It'll be interesting to see what he gets down to.

looks pretty convincing to me that competitive eaters, if fit enough to run the 10k respectably (like 40 mins. or so?) stand the best chance

Would a voracious Big Mac enthusiast (who isn't really a runner) be able to pull off a 40:00 10K feeling good to go off of that effort? Sean was well-adapted to running at the 33:30s 10K pace for tempo workouts and smoothly transitioned to chowing the Big Macs without shocking his system.
Still, that woman does look thin and if she can run, Sean could well lose his title to her. I can see the headline now: Sean the Big Mac Assassin vs. Sonya the Black Widow.
I think I would have tried hammering about 3 miles in 15:30, then speed walking while eating, getting down a sandwich every two laps ideally.

I think I'd like to point out that even if you can speed walk 15 minute miles, without eating Big Macs, after hammering a 15:30 3 mile, you will fail to finish 10 kilometers in an hour.
I'd also like to point out that since April 3rd, 2011 at 12:42 pm, the value of "talk" commodities has plummeted, whereas the value of "action" commodities has soared.

The video was slow in spots but the narrator seemed up on the sport and lingo. I would call him better than average compared to what's out there. I liked him more than the usual drivel from Rawson-Stones-Lewis. I can see it now, "first go down to your local track and run one lap in 80 seconds through sprinklers, then eat a quarter of a Big Mac. This is what Sean did 25 times without stopping."
Those videos are great! Here it's only April, but this thread gets my vote for most entertaining of the year.

Maybe if you ran the 10k on an AlterG it would have expanded your stomach's capacity and if you ate the burgers in a Cryosauna.... :)

I'd like all the people throwing out ideas and suggestions to try this for themselves. More than likely, anybody with a shot in hell of beating that time is not commenting here. To think Kobayashi has a shot because he can eat fast is a bit naive. Just because he's not obese you think he can roll out a 45 minute 10k? I'd bet money he couldn't. Can anybody provide proof that he could run even one mile at 7:00 pace?
This is a more impressive feat than people realize. Not that many people can run sub a 35:00 10k. Not that many people can eat 6 Big Macs. Combine the two feats (assuming it would take a 35:00 10K) and the difficulty is multiplicative. I don't expect to see a faster time posted here any time soon. Best of luck to all that try!
