Yobes Ondieki. Broke 27:00 right around the same time EPO was known to be around and effective for endurance athletes.
A 13:35 28:30 runner in college. He must have been really undertraining in his eaarly 20's.

Amazing that Bergen found him running the mile in 4:15 at an ISU PE class. I agree to some extent that we can blame the introduction of other varsity sports(soccer, etc) into American society as leading to the downfall, but really American greed is also to blame. The big companies that sponsor the marathons pay big appearance fees to have the international flavor represented. Does running in the same race as some Kenyan want me to compete if I was the middle of pack Joe? I think not. He has other reasons to compete. I remember reading an article about the $30,000 fee a Japanese runner received for running over 3:00 at Boston.it turned out he didn't feel good and used it as a training run..well that was worth that money. How deep could that have gone into the field to help some poor American distance runner? Kudos to Brooks-Hanson for keeping the post-collegiate club system going. That is where we should be spending the money.

So does this mean solinsky, teg, ritz and all those future sub-27 white boys on epo too? Ritz p.r before his move to alsal was 13:16 than all of a sudden pops a 12:56. As far as solinsky, he was a 13:12 5k at best and nothing indicated in his college days that would be under 27 min in the 10k but yet in his first attempt he runs 26:59. No epo for these guys. All hard work.....Right

koskei ran 1'42.2 back in '84
that epo ???
konchellah/ereng won the globals in '87/'88, the former running a fantastic solo 1'43-flat which had coe stating this guy was a threat to his wr if he replicated that form on the circuit
the latter ran low-1'43 & despite the big gold is considered one of the greatest unfufilled talents the 800 has ever seen - go watch his magnificent 800 indoor wr where he seemed to be dawdling for much of the race & then just turned on the afterburners like a 200m guy to destroy barbosa & break the wr
as for 1500, the epo-less kenyans still won 1500 gold in '88 & were consistently in top 5 behind likes of bile/aouita/morceli in late '80s/early '90s
Until 1995, the times stagnated and in the 800 m, they actually had rather a declining tendency
eh ?
africans were in top 3 of yearly lists every year from '90 - '95 with range of 1'43.1 - 1'43.5 each year
the only problem was there was no superstar those years - apart from ben koech who i saw on tv run an effortless 1'43.1 as a 19y ole & shouda progressed easily to low/mid - 1'42 guy
however, kenyans still took gold/silver in '92 with non-superstars - their best was still best in the world
In fact, I think that already Morcelli's WR in 1992 was drug-aided
nonsense
he ran 3'28.8 which took 0.6s of a wr that had was long overdue for breaking & shoudn't even have been the wr in mid-'80s if maree hadn't already got the fatigue of a 3'32 race in his legs just 2/7 before his epic 3'29.77
because it was only few months before the Chinese tortoise women showed up on the scene and some other African men also started to run ridiculous times. But everything broke loose in 1995.
moron
you do remember yobes running sub-27 back in '93
what do you call that - chopped liver ???
YOU ARE REALLY A PATHETIC DOLT. I STATED FACTS THAT YOU CAN CHECK - IF YOU WERE REALLY WILLING.
THE 800/1500 M HEADED NOWHERE BETWEEN 1986-1995. AND THE FACT THAT AFRICANS WERE IN TOP 3 OR 10 DOESN'T MATTER, BECAUSE THEIR COMPETITION SIMPLY DISAPPEARED AND THEY WON WITH SLOWER TIMES THAN THE PREVIOUS GENERATION. CAN YOU UNDERSTAND? OR IS IT REALLY TOO DIFFICULT FOR YOU?
AND AS FOR MORCELLI, THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION BASED ON THE DIRTY RECORD OF NORTH AFRICANS DURING THE LAST 15 YEARS. THE FIRST UNDENIABLE EXPERIMENTS WITH EPO OBVIOUSLY STARTED IN 1993, SO MORCELLI'S TIME FROM 1992 ISN'T MUCH DISTANT FROM THIS "BREAKTHROUGH". IF NORTH AFRICANS DIDN'T DOPE LIKE CRAZY, THEY WOULDN'T BE ACCUSED OF DOPING BY ME. THEIR FAULT.

YES, MORE AND MORE I THINK THAT THE FIRST EAST AFRICAN, WHO TASTED TORTOISE SOUP, WAS ONDIEKI IN 1993.

IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE EPO, BUT SOME BORDERLINE LEGAL EXOGENOUS AID. THE IDEA THAT YOU CAN TODAY BREAK TRACK WORLD RECORDS WITHOUT EXOGENOUS AIDS IS UNTENABLE. THE NATURAL HUMAN POTENTIAL IN ATHLETICS WAS LARGELY EXHAUSTED AS EARLY AS DURING 80'S. ALL THE WORLD RECORDS WE HAVE SEEN SINCE (PERHAPS APART FROM SOME HIGHLY TECHNICAL EVENTS) ARE DUE TO DRUGS.

So anyone that runs 140 mile weeks is an Olympian?? There is such thing as talent moron.
Look at the best of the best, their training isnt much different from others, it's just that when optimal training is combined with optimal talent= awesome results.
Of course not everyone who runs 140 mile weeks will be an Olympian and there probably is something that we call talent involved. But talent at 140 a week is usually going to beat talent at 70.

f***ing moron
i did give you the facts
the 800 lists between '90 - '95 had kenyans always present in top 3, sometimes leading, & all in 1'43.1 - 1'43.5 range
OR IS IT REALLY TOO DIFFICULT FOR YOU?
imbecile
1988 - 1'42.65
1990 - 1'42.97
1992 - 1'42.80
were the leading times in those years & none of those from africans
however the africans beat those guys in the champs - it shows they were beating faster guys
as for 1500, every year between '86 - '90 yearly lead was 3'30, which is better than the years '80 - '85
very high, consistent standard of 1500 running in late '80s, but just no wr
you are a moron to believe that this was anything other than high quality performances
AND AS FOR MORCELLI, THIS IS MY PERSONAL OPINION BASED ON THE DIRTY RECORD OF NORTH AFRICANS DURING THE LAST 15 YEARS. you are a f***ing idiot
1st you say epo explosion in '95
now you say it is '92 to suit your purposes
moron, when are you going to take it back to late '80s, because it was easily available back then
Sports physiologist wrote:YES, MORE AND MORE I THINK THAT THE FIRST EAST AFRICAN, WHO TASTED TORTOISE SOUP, WAS ONDIEKI IN 1993.
f***ing idiot
epo was around from '89
why did he or anyone else wait 4y to try it ???

moron
rudisha just ran 1'41-flat wr last year & he's just starting out
what the hell are you going to tell him about "natural human potential exhausted in the '80s" ???
