Rupp v Farah Birmingham Indoor 5,000m UK

I'm guessing the announcement that he is moving over to Nike will be the next news. There's no way Nike woiuld let him train with AlSal and wear the stripes.

This was probably more about $hoe contracts than anything.

Al's very sharp. By bringing Farah in the fold for that extra 1/2 percent that Farah wants, he will get Farah injured (he'll need to change his form completely, of course) and lift Rupp up one more place in the standings at world's and olympics. Why in God's name would Farah switch coaches now? Good to have that training group to run with but everything was going right for him.

The obvious reason AlSal brought in Farah is staring us right in the face in how this race played out. They plan on working together in races. There's not enough talent in the US to take on the East Africans. Neither is there in any other single country.Therefore - it really needs to be East Africans vs the rest of the World. Way too much depth in Kenya/Ethiopia to think otherwise.

I know it's hard to believe but group tactics do play a role in major championship meets. If you don't believe me watch the last 300m of the Olympic 10000m where the Ethiopians form a wall to block Paul Tergat. Actually - the Ethiopians do this quite often in the last lap of a championship race.

And I don't care if the British go back to their old 80s glory days, there is still way mroe depth in East Africa. They need our help.

Yeah God forbid if Rupp were to work together with Solinsky and Tegenkamp in a WC/Oly race against the East Africans. That would be wrong.

Awesome race for both. It's too bad the British record is now better than the American one... I am a big fan of Farah though.

Why would you have to finish the 5000 to get an official 3000 time?

If you start with the gun, run 3000m and get an FAT time, that should be all you need.

The race was great to watch!!! Rupp took the lead the last lap and really pushed the pace, then Farah put in the last big surge and rocketed ahead into the lead and took down the old British Record! Rupp stayed really close but didn't have that final burst of speed to match Farah. I think Galen wasn't sure at first if he had broken the AR right after the race, but a few minutes later, it was confirmed!

Ironic that Lagat added one to his resume (2mAR) then, had one taken off in the span of just a week. These two guys are totally good for each other and training together will only help the both of them! Total quality race and quality results!

Sorry, but I'm not 100% sure that the 17 year old, is actually really 17! I respect the result but the age thing is just a little too much to fully believe!

He ran 4:45 for the last 2k. Not bad.

Unfortunately for anyone not on Rupp and Mo's pace, that race was always going to be a circus.

yeah, because solinsky and tegenkamp have run so many championship 10000's... oh wait...

Not that I think this is really the reason for Farah's switch, but I can envision Mo Farah working together with Rupp in a championship race, more easily than I can envision Solinsky or Tegenkamp, or both, working together with Rupp.

Everyone acts as if Rupp & Solinsky Tegenkamp hate each other. Where does this come from anyway, Oregon Vs Wisconsin, some "lack of proper congratulations after a race"?. They are on Oregon Track Club but under different coaches and different methods. They are all Americans, professionals and all being paid by Nike, remember it was Salazar who "hand picked" his replacement, Schumacher after his heart issues. The Wisconsin boys are a welcome addition to Oregon and personally I think its great for American running - When more companies throw the dollars, efforts and resources like Nike is doing and I think were far more competitive on the world stage in the future. Brooks is trying; New Balance too. I am not a Nike clone but i do appreciate the efforts started by Tom Clarke and the Oregon Project.
