I started my own business 1.5 years ago and I am paying myself $40K right now. We bought our house about 2 years ago for $698K
30 year flat set at 3.75%, so I am not sweating too much.

Income is less than $100,000 and the house is worth about $160,000 or so...who knows really...it's been as high as over $200,000 and as low as $134,000 when we bought it over a decade ago. With one refinance in there, the mortgage is based on just $124,000, and the balance left is well below that now.
$30,000 to buy a house? Wow that's not much. You will either need to make more money or buy a really cheap house (you can get decent homes of $75,000 in many parts of the country today)...what city do you live in? Or you need to get married and have a wife who works, or save up a few thousand dollars every year for 10 years so that you can plop down a big down payment on a still inexpensive home.
