These are very impressive times. The first time I saw her name/age in the results, I was pretty sure the age was a misprint (like maybe 23 instead of 13).
Sure it is rare, and exceptional, for a 13 year old girl to be running 65 mpw. Also, this girl is exceptionally thin. But, neither of those facts alone indicate that her running or training is unhealthy.
I remember entering 9th grade at 78 lbs and 5'1", pretty comparable to Alana, and that was before I had even started running. I was just thin by nature and also a late bloomer. (I did develop an eating disorder but not until years later, WHEN I HIT PUBERTY.)
If Alana is 5'2" and 85 lbs as a 12th grader, then, I would worry. But, she's 13 years old for, and many people are not fully developed at that age.
Yes, 65 mpw seems like a lot, but if you look at some of the kids who swim at MAC in Charlotte (2 times a day every day of the week) or kids in sports like gymnasstics, they probably spend much more time training than this gal.
I don't think you can judge that a certain amount of mileage or time practicing is "too much" or "too intense." Only the parents can be "too much" or "too intense."
The main things that need to be considered are: Is she enjoying her sport? Is she emotionally balanced? And, does she have a life outside of running/an identity apart from running?
If she has all of that, then, great. More power to her. She may hit a bump in the road when she develops. But, if she stays balanced and sticks with the sport, (and avoids injuries) she will likely go on to great success as an adult.
For now I can only worry about getting stomped by a 13 year-old whenever I revisit Charlotte for a race. :P
