they got top-level coaches of the calibre of canova & ethiopians guys like meskel who know their athletes intimately & coud tailor training programmes to maximise their potential
As far as Sammy running fast as a junior, there is a long list of east africans who ran PRs as juniors and never ran faster
name a few elites
the number of africans who set pbs as juniors & never improved is small
sammy when he ran 26'41 was not even 19, he was 18 !
you are deluded if you don't think an 18y ole woudn't have improved at all distances thru maturation
None of Sammys PRs in the years since suggest he has improved. Granted their isn't a lot of room for improvement at this level
drivel
go think about how good 58'33 is
As far as the kick your proportions are the same but that is meaningless. Running fast for 5 min is largely aerobic power. Running fast for 64s is largely anaerobic
you have again confusion issues
a "kick" is defined as an increase in speed in the last part of a race, meaning usually no more than the last lap in a distance race
the increase in speed in the last 1 mile 385y/2.195km in a M is proportionate to last lap in a 10k & last 200m in a 5k & therefore fits the criteria defined as a "kick"
no one cares or asked what component of it is aerobic/aerobic - it is the increase in speed which is defining
Have you ever looked at the training schedule of the japanese runners?
yes
& the M training is sadly lacking in any serious speedwork
Your no speed work is patently false for most of the ones I have seen. There are lots of slow miles but there are also the 3-4 fast workouts a week. You can argue about what they are doing (i.e. I see things like 10x400 but not 10x10s up hill) but it isn't like they are just going out and running 200mpw
10x400 is no serious speedwork if the 400s are done in appallingly slow time
they have to mention some speedwork drills other they will get pilloried internationally but it is lip service as they never dare doing anything serious in this aspect which woud upset kojii, the legendary god of endurance
none of their shorter distance reps are done at a pace likely to develop any serious speed
I am pretty sure an athlete like Radcliff tried to max out her 10k potential before running the marathon. She just happened to be a better marathoner than 10k runner. It happens
no
she tried somewhat unusual method of seeing if M training wouda improved her 10k simultaneously - it woud have - 2"15 has to be worth close to 29'40 at worst
go read canova - he is a believer in this method for some athletes - iirc he praised geoff mutai who went ~27'27 in nairobi off his 2"04 training
