I personally think that this whole investigation is unnecessary. Destroying Lance's reputation will not do any good for the sport of cycling or for United States athletics as a whole. I don't think that it will even influence the wide spread doping going on within the Peloton. For those who think that Lance needs to be raked through the coals I think that you really need to evaluate what exactly the benefits and losses of this will be.
Personally, I would just like to know who exactly the titles would go to if all of the dopers were exposed. I wouldn't be surprised if it went far into the peloton to find someone who wasn't doping. If someone closer to professional cycling could offer some incite that would be great. I've always said that if I got (or get) to the point where I could race the tour but my teammates said I needed to dope and they were doping and that everyone did I would probably do it.
Lastly, even if Lance doped it doesn't really change my opinion of him. Andy Schleck is one of my favorite riders and his father was caught with oxygenated blood in his car, so that's pretty good evidence that he is doped. As far as I'm concerned Jens Voigt is the only clean one. But he is a god amongst mortals.
