Well apparently to those in the know, he has.

Same could have been said about Jager going into last years PRE, look how it turned out for him. Same could have been said about Webb when he was in high school, look how it turned out for him.

You seem to think everyone in this field will run at lifetime best and Wheating will only run at the level of a regional meet qualifier. The probability of both of those are pretty low and that is what the meet director is betting on. That and the roar from the crowd if Wheating comes ripping home the last 150.

Fine, the crowd roars as he pulls up the rear. Or maybe everybody sits but the field still runs 3:48-3:52. The spread is usually about 3-4 seconds. Wheating is gonna need a hell of a day to be in the middle of that pack. BTW, the year Webb ran was nothing like this field. El G was the class of the field and Lagat was there so that was 2 princes in a field that had Pyrah and bunch of 3:53-3:56 guys. This year's field is way classier so not much of a comparison. If he had a decent time trial, meaning he has some pop in his legs after NCAA's, and if he has signed with Nike, he will be in the premier race.

I told you so (Tom Jordan and Nike are nobody's fools when it comes to promotion an the cash register). Now the only thing left is to imagine which singlet Wheating will be wearing when he comes onto he track..Oregon or Nike or OTC?

Yes you were pretty much spot on. I'm pretty sure he is going to get coached by Vin for awhile, so he may still wear his Oregon kit-especially in front of the home crowd. Otherwise I think OTC.

This field is the deepest PRE has had, but they are not all going to run a PR and most likely not all within a second of their lifetime best.

Wheating will rise to the occasion and why wouldn't we want to give him that chance? What American has done what he has as an 800/1500 guy in recent collegiate history?

Wheating has routinely and handily put away 3:35-3:37 guys who only had faster PR's than his because they had been in faster races.

I think Wheating is about to surprise some people, but it really shouldn't come as a surprise.

That's a shame, this was a good chance to test his engine limit for the first times since cardinal invite last year.

It was a pretty busy outdoor season for him though, hopefully he'll get the foot healed ASAP and be ready to lead his team in cross.

I think if he and Acosta can step it up in cross it may push Puskedra back up where he should be.

Exactly. Kind of like Rupp wearing the Oregon singlet at the Olympic Trials. No reason to forgoe that last chance to wear your college uniform at home.

For one, he would beat high school Webb 9 times out of 10 from 800-5k.

He hasn't run 3:35, yet has walked down 3:35 guys. Very similar to the way Andrews was beating him in only 1:47-48, but because of that it seemed obvious Andrews could run 1:45-46.

It seems Wheating is unarguably 3:34 capable. Also would have loved to see him in the 1k - I'm sure he could go 1:47/29 or something to that effect.

IMO he will be a 3:32 guy very shortly. LOL at whoever said Lomong and Manzano have better wheels.

It was an oversized track. Where were the cones? My stepmother who is obese could run 3:51 on that track.
