Right. He should quit the sport because he's been injured so much and so severely that after a year of college he only has one AHSR, one AJR and one ACR -- over three different distances.

Just FYI, I lived in Eugene for a bit and can say when they lay new bark (back then once a year) it's terrible. Soft, mushy and can be hot as hell when they do it in the summer. You can feel the heat coming up to your knees.
That said I think that stuff makes you very tough, like the Kiwis running in sand. And the truth is it's usually packed down greatly after about a month. Sometimes in the winter it gets mushy with all the rain but even that seemed to be only in certain areas.
It sure doesn't seem to hurt the likes of the Oregon men and women and the various OTC guys who have been making international teams from there.
And how many DNF,DNS has he had?

If true, you would think he would try to get at least one tune up effort in before the Big-12. Then again, German has show he can go from workouts to 3:56 without any tuning races. So...
I do wonder why most schools stay mum on injuries these days. There was never any word about what kept Derrick out of indoor track. What is up with Luke Puskedra right now.
Anyone know why?

Not sure what's up with Puskedra, but my guess is he's having a soph slump and Vin would rather have redshirted him if not for NCAA's in Eugene this year. Even in a slump Puskedra can score a point or 2 that could wind up being the difference between first and second for the team. He's probably slugging out the base and not racing much, hoping that a fast 10K race will allow him to overtake some guys who are burned out by end of season.
Derrick might have been injured indoors, but if not it would make sense to give him a brake. The guy has been a donkey for stanford and probably could have used a few months of base work without all the intensity, as well as letting up on the adrenal gland a bit.
I bet German wins Big 12 and is a big wild card coming into NCAA's.

Nelson placed 4th at worlds in 1979. He was injured most of the two years he ran at the collegiate level, so it's not easy to win titles and break records sittng on the bench.

Well last year he and his coached talked very openly about GF's injuries and weird racing schedule...and they took a lot of shit for it.
