Salazar: Webb lost 8 pounds

They were also pounding away in their training in their 20's. It seems that Webb has had significant down time, which might increase his longetivity by a couple of years.

Salazar saying that Ritz is using technology to figure out his foot injuries is irrelevant. Saying that Webb lost 8 pounds is irrelevant. BOTH OF THEM ARE INJURED. Trying to use technology and losing weight don't mean anything. The two best American runners ever aren't racing and it sucks. Salazar sucks. He may not be blowing smoke completely but he has no results and Webb and Ritz are on the sidelines.

That's great that he has lost the weight. What worries me, is that when he ran in the trials, he looked and raced as though it was his first race ever. An American record holder should race as though he owns the track.

Webb's injury is not his fault and Ritz has always been injury prone.

Crazy race for Webb. Interesting is that little Matty Centrowitz was in that race (high school senior?) and Webb probably beat him by 100 meters there. Last season Centro would have beaten Webb with his 3:36.

Hopefully Webb will pull back around, when he's on he's nuts. All 3 of Salazar's studs can go under 13:00.

Ok, NOW you got carried away. Webb will set the WR in the mile "without a doubt" ??? C'mon, show some respect. Webb's pr in the mile is nearly FOUR seconds off the WR in the mile, and his 1500 pr is OVER FOUR seconds off the WR in the 1500. And this was when he was running his absolute best, and confident as hell. Four seconds in the mile is HUUUUUGE, it is a lifetime! So don't give me this "without a doubt" crap. Hopefully, HOPEFULLY, with the right coach, better mindset, etc, Webb can return to his previous form, and maybe, just maybe set some new PR's, maybe going 3:45.9 or 3:29-low. That would be huge for him.

You know, a lot of you, including this poster, have posted vids of Webb's great 2007 season. It was brilliant, including the nice kick he displayed against Lagat in the race linked to on this post. However, ITBS, bear in mind a few things:

1) the lagat Webb blasted by had already run 5000 heats along with 1500 heats, AND he was just rounding into shape. That was a tired, not in peak form Lagat. Don't kid yourself that that was Lagat at his best.

2) Did you see Manzano, the at-the-time college kid closing in that race? Almost as fast as Webb. So I guess that means Manzano will win gold someday too?

So you are getting a little carried away in your "without a doubt Webb will break WR's and win olympic golds if this and if that occurs." Slow down.

That was the only race that really mattered, and did you see Lagat's finish in THAT race. Oh Lagat won the 5k too.

I am just saying you are getting carried away by putting Webb on the most-talented-mid-distance-runner-of-all-time pedestal you are basically putting him on, by claiming future WR's and gold medals for him.

Not sure where Salazar gets off saying Webb is recovering nicely from achilles surgery when he currently has stress fracture. Continued game playing from Salazar. So much hype with so little results.

Webb had already blasted by Lagat at Reebok in New York, where both were fresh. Lagat had not yet worked on his speed at that time in the season. He sure was ready for the World Champs that year.

Yep. Weight training doesn't make one heavier: only eating makes us heavier. If one doesn't eat an excess of calories (and specifically protein), he cannot put on additional mass no matter how much time he spends in the gym.
