I know that when I seek care from a specialist, my health care plan often specifies which specialist in my area I can see. Further, if you were already a patient of his and read this:
"If you voted for Obama … seek urologic care elsewhere. Changes to your healthcare begin right now, not in four years."

And it's this kind of entirely misguided thinking, trolling as you may be, that is damning our country. When you have no understanding of the medical system or a physician's wage (or the current trends for young physicians, which is an entirely different climate than it was years ago), it's impossible to even carry on a conversation.
I think the problem here is 9.012 of the AMA Code of Ethics that states "Under no circumstances should physicians allow their differences with patients or their families about political matters to interfere with the delivery of high-quality professional care."
The problem here is that while he is still giving high-quality professional care to Obama supporters, his politics is interfering with the delivery of that care by discouraging potential patients and and even current ones. (Another article interviewed two patients who left his care after reading the sign - this is interfering with professional care.)
I would not feel comfortable going to him for care and I am not even an Obama supporter. In interviews he seems like an idiot, simply not recognizing the possibility that people would be deterred by the sign from entering his office. I need a doctor that is more with it than that. I hope he gets censured somehow.
I would be glad this idiot put up his sign. Better to find out he's incompetent now than after he screws up a procedure, right?

In no way does this reflect the doctor's competence as a physician, nor is it unethical to turn people away on the basis of politics. A free agent has the right to choose who he wants to do business with. It is the patients in question - the supporters of Obamacare - who are unethical for presuming the right to subjugate physicians.
Subjugate physicians? Where in health care reform does it say that? I mean I'm not crazy about the health care bill, but this physician has crossed a serious line.
And no, a free agent does not have the right to choose who he wants to do business with. A private landlord cannot refuse to do business with somebody because of their race, for example.
And before you get all high and mighty on me, I am a senior pre-med. Will be a M1 next year. Am looking forward to practicing medicine just as much now as I was pre-March 23.

You are failing to distinguish between what is legal and what is moral. A private businessman does have the moral right to refuse to do business with anyone, for any reason, even if the law forbids it.
A doctors has the moral, and at this point, even the legal right to refuse to accept new patients and to discharge existing patients for political reasons. The only lines this doctor has crossed are ones which people have drawn up in their own minds.

Oddly enough, as a urologist in Florida - his practice is heavily subsidized by the federal government...through that socialist enterprise known as MEDICARE.
Apparently this doctor is too dumb to realize that without a program like Medicare, his patient numbers would dwindle.
So I propose a new standard for this moral doctor: if he is so opposed to the federal government interfering with his practice, he is welcome to also post a sign on his door that he will not accept any Medicare patients either.
Let's see him put his money where his mouth is.

He's a Republican, not a laissez-faire capitalist, so his objection is not likely to government involvement as such. But even if it was, it would not be a contradiction for him to accept Medicare. The institution of big government, and the destruction of savings that it has caused, have made it impossible for most seniors to pay for healthcare in any other way. Therefore, it is moral for doctors to accept Medicare as recompensation even if they are philosophically opposed to government involvement.
That's lovely rationalizing.

Remind me where this health care bill creates government-run health care? It doesn't. Like I said, I'm not the hugest fan, but the amount of misinformation out there is astounding. (both sides)
And since morality is subjective, you may say he does and I may say he doesn't...so yes, the only lines this doctor has crossed are ones which people have drawn up in their own minds, their own moral standards.
My moral standards are clearly different than yours, and that is okay, but it doesn't make either of ours less valid.
When I'm a doctor, I'll welcome treating anybody, regardless of politics. That is the moral standard to which I will hold myself. Apparently this doctor has a different moral standard to which he holds himself.
