Halls performance depends heavily on how he manages the supercompensation coming from a higher altitude to races at sea level. This can give him the boost to run with the best or backfire. I predict that if he races within 48h after arriving in Boston, he will have an excellent race and finish atleast in 3rd, if he arrives on Friday or earlier he will struggle.

You´ve just read what Renato Canova has said; "race inside 48hours after coming back at sea level" so stop pretending to be knowledgeable.

Why can't we just let Hall believe in what he wants to believe. He is not forcing anything on anyone. If you don't like what he believes, don't read what he writes or listen to what he says! At this point, the running community knows he is a Christian and his blogs, articles, and interviews will contain some type of religion. If he uses his faith to motivate himself, then that's his prerogative. Everyone finds motivation somewhere; it just happens that he finds it in his faith. Regardless, I hope he is successful!

Yes, emphatically yes; we Christians do believe that God is in control and that it is arrogant not to give thanks for a gift, like athletic ability or athletic success. That is why Christian athletes make a point to thank God after the event. It is about humility.

Christianity is also replete with warnings that faith will reveal the thoughts of many hearts and that we should expect that the expression of our hearts will bring expressions of hatred, or at least the pimple faced snarkiness of a running message board.

I hope the best for Ryan at Boston. I am give him credit for sticking up for what he believes no matter how unpopular he has become for it. Faith cannot be explained as Thomas Aquinas said “To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible.”

Top American. About 3rd overall. Runs in front at least the first half. And I'm pretty sure Hall and Mahon know more about marathons than I do.

I predict second. Some African will outkick him over the last few miles. Also, it does seem that he would benefit from 2-3 months a year of Vo2 work and shorter races. Why not take May through July and do it. However, it would probably be most beneficial if it was done at sea level. He would still have plenty of time for a fall and spring marathon buildup at altitude. Although mentally he should approach it with the mindset that it doesn't matter how fast he runs but just that he is running fast. Losing a bunch of 5k's and 10k's might not go over well with his sponsors. But it would be great to see him mix it up.

Hall doesn't win, gets all depressed about it, complains about what he did wrong, everybody complains, insults his religious beliefs, same old story.

Regardless, I'll be pulling for him. Nice guy.
