OK dufus, point out one Oregon runner who has had seed times entered that are not "realistic". Metcalf himself has a reputation for listing "home team" seed times that are fake, but you will not find that happening with Vin Lananna.
I've been in on NCAA discussions of this issue, and Mac Fleet is a perfect example of a discussion that was held. The issue was, if early in the season an athlete has a "comparable" time in a similar event, the seed time may be extrapolated in a reasonable manner to the similar race being run (e.g. Fleet's recent 1,200 meter time). That is exactly what Vin did for Fleet, and if Metcalf didn't think it was correct, he could override and can place Fleet with the high school kids ... pissing off the coaches and the fans who want to see this young phenon run a 3:57.
You need to get a life.
I'm sure Metcalf is no angel either but Vin is famous for screaming on the Samsung saying "Do you know who I am" when he doesn't get his charges in the heats he wants.
That's my point, Oregon fans think that world records are realistic for their athletes. Yeah, like Oregon has the only athletes that run negative splits or are coming back from injury. Sure, the world should stop for you guys.

Chloe Steinbeck should not be seeded at 2:06, I agree. Her legitimate seeding should be at 2:12. This baffles me as well, since Oregon athletes (regardless of what the blowhard here says), typically are seeded right on the money. Chloe is a good looking 800 meter freshman runner, who may well be at 2:06 by the end of the outdoor season, but I agree with you that she cannot run that kind of time right now. Who are these other Ducks seeded with an unrealistic time?? My bet is if you check out other schools' seedings (e.g. Washigton's), you will find some that are out of line, much more than Chloe's. And for that blowhard poster that says Vin yells out "don't you know who I am". That is a big fat lie, and anyone in the profession, who has been around Vin knows how untrue and unfair such a ridiculous statement is. Winners do attract haters, but this hater shouldn't be so obvious.

And it isn't early season, it is the last meet before the conference meet for most. It is mid if not late season right now.
It is everyone thinking they deserve an exception that causes the problem. In mid February, if everyone entered with their legitimate seed time earned THIS year if they have raced, or last year if they have not, then everyone gets in the correct heat.
According to the NCAA Track manual, all it will take is one coach to challenge an NCAA qualifying mark from this weekend based on them being entered with a false mark, and all hell will break loose.
But after the dust settles, I bet the offending coaches don't do it again.
It continues because there has never been a consequence. Once a consequence is imposed, the situation will correct itself.

If GF had not set the WRJR mile indoor record last year, that time would be the new JR record. Oops I'm wrong, Fleet is older than GF. Fleet can not set any JR record because he is too old. Oregon probably figured they could sneak one in.
But Oregon is not the only one. I'm a huge OSU fan, but I can not recall Colby Lowe ever running 13:45 for 5K. I believe his PR is 13:57. He may run 13:45 or faster tonight, but he has not done it yet.

this is the biggest bullshit line going. No they don't. There is no way to get everyone in the right heat, just accept that and you'll be better off. Your damn right a football team with a that is 5-8 and can't say they are 12-1 to get into a bowl game. No one is saying coaches should be allowed to make up times for entry into the NCAA championships. But if you have to run qualifiers to run in the qualifiers and qualifiers to get in those qualifiers, not only do the guys who are improving fast suffer as they run alone out front in a C heat but the established guys in the first section suffer because their heat is weaker then it should be. Is it sloppy to give coaches the ability to seed their athletes? Yes. Do some take advantage? Sure. Does a guy like Vin know who belongs in the first section of the mile at UW a whole lot better then some nameless, anonymous rule book lover with no credentials, who has probably never seen a sub 4 minute miler workout never mind actually coached one? YES.
I get that we are all jealous of those that run faster, win more, its natural. I get that we have all been bumped out of better sections by someone we are better then, or we believe we are better then. Though I think most of us are quick to forget the great section we were in that time we had a cold and ran like shit while 5 guys in the second section ran faster. But the reality is that the NCAA system is for developing athletes, mid season meets are to give athletes a chance to qualify for the championships. To force athletes to qualify for those meets as well not only creates an unrealistic system, it also hurts coaches abilities to develop their athletes over the long term and by extension hurts American distance running which is just finally getting back on its feet.
So stop bitching about something that works pretty well, stop bitching about people who are doing a good job. Start learning from them instead and start running the miles yourself, or coaching a local jr. high or high school team with an eye towards development. Instead of with an excuse about why so and so is beating your ass. Forget the 'they have this advantage or that advantage' bs, they are just doing a better job.

it has nothing to do with who is beating me. it has to do with honesty. if you have run fast workouts, then you will run a fast time. and running the fast time gets you in the fast heat. pretty simple.

every athlete there is trying to run a qualifier and a personal best too. What makes any one athlete more important than another. Why make it an arbitrary guess when WE HAVE TIMES THAT ATHLETES HAVE ACTUALLY RUN?
our sport is so damn simple, we keep time and measure distances at meets for a reason. not to be disregarded because "i have the ability to be such and such if i am in the right race etc."

WE HAVE PERFORMANCES FOR EVERYONE, why give false ones?
It's on meet managers to enforce the rule. If they insist on having a lesser quality meet by ignoring it, oh well. It'll work better when the new system gets a few years under its belt. Marks could get auto-checked, theoretically.
MEET DIRECTOR DISCRETION. If I am the meet director, and coaches "A"and "B" each give me a set of entries, and the athletes of A underperform while B's athletes perform as predicted, then next year I hold A to a tougher standard than B. It is a matter of judgment, in order to produce the best conditions for everybody.
