I know you have thought this through in your mind, but take it from someone who "What If's" himself way too often.

Make sure you are certain it is time. Injuries heal. Competitiveness returns. You're only 25-32 years old for a spec of time in the scheme of things. If you really don't want to know if a sub 13:00 5k is in you etc. IF you really can't see yourself lacing them up every day and testing your body; Then retire. But, take if from me, don't leave questions unanswered that you can only answer in the next few years or forever regret it.

Congratulations on all you've accomplished if you are done.

Since Chris trained in DC, he was able to complete his degree at Georgetown.

Wow, I can understand why threads on political or religious topics, or threads about some teenager's love troubles, etc. go south. But this topic surely deserved a more serious and mature discussion. What a sad bunch of kids who occupy this site.

Chris, this is an interesting idea. If I were a VC guy I'd ask what makes this different from vrbo.com or similar sites. The group/community thing might be the differentiator but then I'd suggest you need to put some thought into the group membership idea. For instance, who's the trustworthy authority who can vouch for potential renters' identity, membership or even character?

Let's say this really was for runners who travel all over the world for races. Now, if I had a room to rent out and I could choose between some random dude and some random dude who belonged to NYRR that might be a meaningful distinction especially if I could contact the owner of the NYRR group and ask if this person was legit. Or if you could guarantee me that all members of the NYRR group of your site were legit. For the folks renting out space, something like the eBay seller ratings might work but I think the "buyer" ratings are much more critical for a couch surfing service.

I'm just brainstorming here. Hope it takes you in a productive direction. I think you may be onto something but the trust nut is a hard one to crack. Best of luck.

The idea of crashing with people around the world instead of staying in a hotel is a great idea....too bad he wants people to pay for it. There is already an awesome site where you can connect with, and stay with, people from around the world while traveling for free. It is called couchsurfing.com. Check it out. In his runnersworld interview he points out that you will save money and possibly have someone to show you around wherever you happen to be. What a coincidence! Couchsurfing does all of that also...and it is free! Now I have never stayed in a castle while couchsurfing but I have stayed in amazing houses and apartments all around the U.S and Europe. I have met some awesome people and even a few runners through the site. The idea is not very original at all. You would think with a Georgetown education he would do a little better than this. I went to a school that was not nearly as good as Georgetown and I was able to figure this out.

It's too bizarre to not think it's a Lukezic imposter.

If it's not, it's totally mind-blowing to think a guy would a) make such a dorky goodbye announcement on letsrun; b) wrap himself up in a giant ad that seems to be the equivalent of the "Popiel Pocket Fisherman."

I think the guy probably smoked too much weed and unfortunately, he decided to post something on his computer.

Well he did made a blog post pertaining to his retirement on Flotrack and he also discussed it in a Runners World interview. It is in fact confirmed although it is bizarre.

It sounds like an interesting idea, and the benefit of making it a paid service could be incorporating insurance, security, backup hotel plans, etc.

Honestly, my first thought was that, as a female Letsrun member, I'd rather spend the night in a cardboard box than with a random person from Letsrun. But throw in complimentary legal service for the next day's sexual harassment suit and you've got a deal. Really though, the important thing to me would be a way of verifying the renters- a guarantee that the renter was part of a club where the owner/president would vouch for him would be good.

does the host and guest pay a fee or just the host?

Chris, just keep running...you don't have to get all technical with it. If you sacraficed your 'life' to running then nature taught you a lesson by having a bad year(s). Look at Usain Bolt, the fastest man to ever live but also a person who lives life to the fullest and is also a business man himself. You don't need to quit, you just need to relax and stay up late a few times, eat a few mcdonald's meals from time to time and just enjoy life and run. When you just relax you'll run better.

If the OP is really Lukezic, then this has to be a cry for help. I'm not kidding.

Chris, tell someone what's going on. The flippant nature with which you are discussing your retirement is kind of alarming.
