Come On!! Why is the NCAA XC Championships held on a Monday, and in Terre Haute? This is BAD for the sport.

If it really were that easy and only requiring a minimal amount of effort, then why are there not dozens of schools clamouring for the opportunity (and national visibility) to host NCAA cross champs?

Terre Haute is a HOLE, if it needs to be in Indiana they should move it back to Bloomington which was actually a nice setup. I'm not sure why it's in Terre Haute...someone obviously worked out a deal that the NCAA thought was good. My guess is once the contract runs out it'll be moved. Saying that course is the best course they could have it at is a joke.

I think they put it on Monday because then people will actually attend the meet. Saturday...college football, Sunday NFL. I think they should actually move it to a Friday.

No, THAT'S the fundamental problem: Too many people thinking that the status quo is all that can be done; progress is too difficult. Thinking that if it's not easy (ie. "dozens of school clamouring" for the honor of hosting the meet), then it's not worth pursuing. God forbid that the NCAA actually roll up their sleeves and try to make something happen.

So, although VCP and Franklin Park already host regionals, I guess it's way too difficult to convince them to instead host nationals 9 days later.

Do you think that maybe people have actually looked at what would be required before making their decision instead of just assuming it would be too difficult?

That's 99% of the problem. NCAA/USATF employees asks for bribes and perks then take the offer that gains them the most personal benefit. You see the perk giving such as with NCAA big shots at with ceremonial do-nothing jobs at USATF meets and vice versa. NYRR, BAA, Nike, Adidas, etc. all play that suck up game too. Consequently nobody wants to bid with such corrupt people except the pisshole and rundown towns trying to revitalize their communities. The Eugene / Track Town b.s. is the typical sorry ass group of desperate wannabes.

The bigger question is why do they have the NCAA basketball championship on a Monday night?

That affects a lot more people.

They should have the final 4 on Friday night and championship game early Sunday evening.

What the hell are you talking about? Bidding is how the real world works. Organizations that want to host the meet must meet a certain level of criteria. There is no reason a Stanford or Arizona could not bid on the NCAA meet (in fact, Arizona did not too long ago...and they won!); they simply choose not to.

You don't just call up the NCAA and say, "Hey, make sure everyone shows up the Franklin Park for NCAAs...we've got it on lock." You have to demonstrate that you've got the people, infrastructure, travel, accomodations, timing, etc. figured out beforehand. That's what the bid is for.

Another example of this process is the NCAA basketball tournament. Those first round cities aren't picked at random by the NCAA; they are selected after each city's organizing committee puts in a bid.

If you think that the NCAA is picking these events based on personal favors, I think you should bring suit against them for uncompetitive practices. Obviously you've been snubbed at one time by these other "unfair" bids. Oh wait, you've probably never even been a part of the bidding process. My mistake.

Our sport of Cross Country and Track & Field has been ruined by the career sponges at NCAA & USATF. It's a shame at how much we all train to be lean and in shape, then we turn around and see the layers and layers of wasteful corruption sucking us dry.

Nov. 23 becomes the first viable competitive day, made more palatible by necessitating only one missed day of classes.

HEY HOW ABOUT D1 FOLLOW D2?!??!?! D2 has its regionals on the 7th, and nationals on that saturday the 21st, and all d2 conference meets were this past weekend....i know people are gonna say well pre nats would be f***ed up, you move up pre nats a week, and you eliminate an at large race or something to that nature...d2's way is alot better than d1's for specatators.

Sure, people are just lining up to 'grease the palms' of the NCAA to get the national meet. Big moneymaker there.

Indiana may be the Crossroads of America, but Terre Haute is the roadkill on the shoulder.

I actually agree with you here. The Superbowl, the NBA finals, the BCS championship game, the Final Four are all a bunch of guys I have never heard of. You know what matters? You know what frickin' matters??? The All-Star games! Team sports are about putting the best athletes out there not some crappy 5th man from Upstate NY who logged 70 miles a week all summer to break 17 minutes.

The only thing that proves is that you have never been to NXN. The Kenyans have never been a part of the National High School Championship. They are there to remind the American kids how far we have to go to be competitive in the World.

My Vote is to keep it in Indiana, great course for both the runners and spectators. Wish the finish line area was little more spectator friendly and they would allow fans on field (norhtwest side) during the final lap instead of standing way over by the concession stand. Just put some temporary flags to keep spectators off the major straight a way at the end(finish)!

Terre haute does a great job!
