I am doing the things that I know work for me.
My base is basically to build up to about 70 miles a week by the start of December. I am doing 3 workouts a week, one being intervals, one being a longer tempo (45 mins) and one being a hill workout. I also am building up to a long run of 90 minutes each week. The reason I chose these sort of workouts is because I lack strength over anything else. Once December comes I will start to incorporate some basic speed work, 10x100m strides on the track. The reason for this is that I have found myself very strong before but lacked the leg speed to be able to run the shorter distances. I am going to be doing a lot of 2k pace work when I start my indoor season, the reason being that the pace run for 2k helps give strength to running a 1500 and being able to finish strong, as well as giving legspeed for a 3k. Indoors will hopefully consist of 4 races, two 1500's and two 3ks.
I don't have a coach right now, I want to do my own thing because I know myself best and what works for me.
I have no problem with other people joining in as I think of the running community as an ant hive: one person alone has no direction and is mindless, but bring people together to collaborate ideas and you can get REAL training advice, not generic "you need to run more miles", or "stick to the concrete".
