Let's get a thread started focused on predictions for this year. Here are my top teams: 1. Adams State --Enough said. 2. Western State --With the arrival of new Foreigners and their solid returners they are going to be tough. 3. Chico State --They lose their front runner but always have a strong pack. 4. Colorado Mines --After a dismal performance last season they return their top 4, with the growing age of Mclain it could get interesting. 5. Grand Valley --Again they always field outstanding teams with outstanding Coaching 6. Alaska Ancourage --With the rumors of arriving foreigners and their leader Cheseto they will be a strong team this year. 7. Harding --Kirwa is their lead man and I predict him for the individual title, not too familiar with rest of team. 8. Queens --Crouch is an amazing front runner and will pull this team to a top ten finish. 9. Abilene Christian --This is the kicker. With their program in shambles from violations and the recent departure of Charles White they have 4 great runners, but it takes 5 to win. I predict them at 9 but they could be anywhere up to third. 10. Drury --Expect some surprises from this team. Zapatero was All American last season and their young team is maturing. 11. Edinboro --This team is always in the hunt but I don't think they will crack the top 10 this year. 12. U Mass Lowell --If I remember right they lose Sanca to graduation so they may be lacking a front runner. 13. Metro State --Since Julian has jumped ship and their loss of Tolentino, there have been rumors of many of the team members transferring to be with Julian. With the team splitting, its tough to see them doing much better than this, despite their excellent track season.

(Look at the rosters)

** Abilene Christian has Sang, Maina, and Tanui returning. They are getting a 9:07 2-miler, a Frenchman, and and Englishman. That's a possible 6 studs. Maybe they should be above Chico.

** Chico State has Wickman, Rodgers, Scanlon (all XC all-americans), plus Elam (30:03), Cannon (14:20), Wellman (3:51), and their 9:13 steepler. I've seen trophy teams with less talent. Plus you know they have another 10-15 talented guys who are training like crazy.

** WWU has three XC all-americans (Welling, Grimes, Medhaug) and a 3:47/14:30 guy in Tomich. They would have been 6th last year had Tomsich not redshirted. Maybe they catch fire and get a trophy. 7th doesn't seem out of place.

** Edinboro didn't graduate anyone and all of the teams they jumped graduated lots of runners. Doesn't seem that crazy to me.

** Alaska Anchorage lost a lot and drops 4 spots... Doesn't seem unreasonable to me

** Metro fell below Augustana in the region poll and therefore must be below them in the national poll. Where would you rank Augustana nationally? You have to put Metro below that.

There is a method to the madness. Sure teams will shake up as the year goes on. Some teams will have guys get injured and fall. Others will bring in new secret recruits or have guys improve and they will move up.

Actually Metro State graduated their top three runners from last fall's national team (Tolentino who was 11th, Bogatay and Young). But as stated they picked up some good guys in the Spring and did well on the track. And yes Julian moved on to WSU, but their assistant coach who is now their head coach won't miss a beat either.

metro races tomorrow at uccs along with mines. should be a good matchup even though the rankings say otherwise.

and its hard to tell what the hell adams looks like cause their course is like a quarter mile short. will their top guys even run? and whats the word on their new recruiting?

So, first weekend in the books. Anything really change? Adams can now worry about if they will win nationals by 30 or 50 points, everyone else can think about second, and people can whine some more about the rankings.

So your comparing Adams to a team (Arizona) that did not even win the National Championship, for arguments sake??!!?? Geez at least try, and try hard to put Adams State up against the team that won the National Championships, those years, Arkansas.... Now try comparing Robirds and Dickson to Falcon and Reina and their even deeper team as far as track PRs go... yep I think I hear crickets chirping....and then you could also consider your Arizona comparison, Ramirez was the Individual National Champ in 1987 on his home course, of course Falcon fell or tripped on the home stretch, but ramirez was right there for the win.....

bringin it back after the weekend... adams killed it at altitude, missouri southern hosted a meet and didnt appear to run though the times were really fast... mines looks way stronger than last year... anchorage has lots of fast kenyans but four isnt enough to beat w wash... minn mankato looks to have fallen off the face of the plannet after a few top tens... anything else?

Harding looked a little weak after Kirwa and Biwott. Queens and GVSU both ran well. I really wanna see ACU run.

Mankato looks to be hurtin this year... Dana Schmidt (10k and 5k NSIC double champ) transferred to Corcordia NE. IMO he would have been a top 10-15 at nats guy (I think 14:2X?) After that Lombardo is a 15:30 5k and the rest I don't think have broken 16. They stand a very real shot at not making nats this year. Guess we will see at the Griak.

Western Washington is going to be in the top 10 this year. They had a strong showing last year with a group of young runners, mostly redshirt freshmen. They have had a couple young runners fill in the gaps that left last year. oh, and one big one...Their number one runner wasn't healthy last year, and now he is back. Assuming everyone stays healthy they will be a solid team in the top 10, somewhere in the 7-10 range I guess. They have a great coaching staff, young strong runners, and they return nearly everyone from last year! oh, and Bellingham, WA. is one of the best spots in the country to train!!!! hahaha!
