I'm curious as to why one of the Brown recruits has PRs listed from 200 to 3200. It seems to me that her strongest event is the 400m (then again, she has the fastest 1600m time of the recruits). Are they trying to convert her to mid-distance?

The long distance guys on that roster don't seem up to par compared with recent years or what they could recruit. Good MD group though
Girls got 10:20sc/2:07, 2:07 and 4:47m, and 10:30y. That's a scary class, curious what the person talking up Columbia girls earlier thinks.

With Hilary May running a 2:08 indoors last year and some other budding mid-distance talent on that squad, Harvard may just have one killer 4x800 squad.
Harvard's class is outstanding. Columbia's class is much, much deeper, but Harvard has better top end runners. Ultimately who cares though. A family who makes $150,000 pays $55,000 to go to Columbia, Brown, Cornell, Penn and Dartmouth. Same family pays $15,000 to go to H-Y-P. The most inequitable conference in the country. If Columbia is ever even close to Harvard then Harvard sucks. The fact that Harvard has an average class is a direct reflection of their staff's inability to recruit!
I think you are correct, but only to a point. My understanding is that, with very few exceptions, it is much more difficult to get good recruits past Harvard's admissions office than other Ivy admissions offices.
Not true at all. At this point, every school but Cornell is very close in terms of who they can admit.
well, if that is true then the problem lies with the recruits - anyone who would pay $55K to run for Columbia when they could run for Harvard for $15K is pretty dumb.
Not sure what goes into the decision. Nor am I a Columbia supporter. Was just saying. I have no idea either, but it seems to happen.
Well Columbia does have a very good team and NYC is awesome so that could explain why someone would go to Columbia over Harvard.

I know personally of a family who makes more than $150,000 and only pays $25,000 to go to one of those first 5 schools.

IME this would be very, very rare. About the only scenarios I can think of would be a) the student doesn't apply for financial aid at all, and/or b) the family has very substantial assets--that is, their *income* is $150k, but their *wealth* is considerably greater.
I could be wrong, but in general I'd say that very few American students (from families with that annual income) pay full freight at any Ivy.
When I applied to the Ivies a few years ago, only got accepted to Dartmouth and Harvard. Dartmouth was asking me to pay $31k+ while Harvard was asking for $22k. I had three working parents, easily making over $150k, and FASFA amount was $20k. My mom went to the Dartmouth financial aid office asking them to redo the offer since she was under the impression that all Ivies would offer the same financial aid package across the schools to limit competition (and my mom worked in college admissions at the time so the rumor seemed reasonable to her). But Dartmouth did not decrease their offer at all.
But out of all of the schools I applied to out-of-state, Harvard was the best offer for me. That was a big reason why I went there. I guess Harvard got away with that low of a cost due to their endowment (I think).
Was the deal you got at Harvard before their new financial aid 10% policy came out? If not, I am sure the disparity is even far greater now.
Alas, I'm too old for the 10% policy. Those estimates were from 2002. Not fair! lol.

The true gap would be in the range of $4-8K, not $40K. Whoever gave those numbers pulled them out of their ass. I'm only two years removed from this whole process and my price tags were
Columbia: $26K
Princeton: $22K
Assuming Harvard = Princeton, if you loved NYC or actually cared about running, it's quite plausible that $16K over 4 years is worth it to live in the city you loved or run for a good team.
That said, my times and academics compared favorably with most of Harvard's class my year and they called me once and then never returned my calls, so it would be fair to say their recruiting needs a little work.
