boy you came so late into this you have no idea where your at. the point I made was why did they do a sudden switch of events, the point that SarcasmKing made was that he's a putz, ohh and sarcastically made a point that the 2 mile is an obscure event. so I responded to his point by asking him about his favorite 3K olympic mens final was. stay with me here because that is a sarcastic way of saying that the 3K is also an obscure event for men, much like the mile, 2K, 1K or an indoor 500 meters. meaning when none of them are recognized at any of our national championships or world championships or olympics, why does one bother claiming that one is obscure/legitimate in relation to the other.
so back to the original question, when a meet lists a certain event (i.e. 2 mile) and gets people committed, why would they switch it at the last day or two to a very similar but slightly different distance (i.e. to a 3K)? some people may have committed to the meet for reasons such as p.r. or A.R. chances and then the event is switched. on the flip side, maybe if they had wanted a 3K from the get go, maybe they would lagat going for his 3K AR in boston instead of europe.
so if you are still not with me, i am not making any issue about this distance, but with a last minute decision to switch the distance. imagine if you signed up for the mile and had a 4:00.5 pr and a 3:42 1500 pr. you show up in boston ready to break the elusive barrier to find out you will be running another 1500 and run another 3:42. now these 2-mile/3K guys may not give a crap, but maybe they do. i mean why did lagat not sign up for the 2 mile but go to europe for a 3K?
Well, why the f*** did you start talking about the Olympics, then? It was just a retarded attempt at being a smartass.

And I repeat:
"...the point that SarcasmKing made was that he's a putz, ohh and sarcastically made a point that the 2 mile is an obscure event. so I responded to his point by asking him about his favorite 3K olympic mens final was. stay with me here because that is a sarcastic way of saying that the 3K is also an obscure event for men, much like the mile, 2K, 1K or an indoor 500 meters.

Now the key point was in the first paragraph. Still don't get it? Ask one more time. Ohh wait, you already answered your own question how you wanted it answered. Thanks for policing which of us can respond to smartasses. Cheer up mate, life aint so bad. Good things are happening today in running!

When has he dropped out besides that 5000m tune up at portland last year when his calves were bothering him?

You expect a letsrun poster to back up an attack with actual facts? You must be new here.

As far as I remember the 3000 has been part every indoor world championship, as well as our own national indoor championship. Get the relevance smart guy.

Ohh this has carried on way too long, obviously I was referring to the outdoor championships, which are the ones that EVERYONE aims for making them the be all end all.
There are these nitpicking whiners hanging out like crows on this forum, just looking for any scrap to peck at. Grow up boys. The point was made pages ago, if you missed it then you don't know what you're even responding too.
Why do we run miles if 1500's are run at championships? Still not following?
The big point was......WHY SWITCH at the last minute? It doesn't matter which they run, but maybe decide on one before athletes choose to make travel arrangements.
Ooohh crow, your probably already on another thread looking for another scrap.

"Men's 2 Mile: Can Rupp Challenge The Ethiopians?
This race is full of talented guys but is a bit hard to handicap as many of them haven't raced this year. In our minds, one of the following three people will win ths race: Markos Geneti or Bekana Daba of Ethiopia or Adrian Blincoe of New Zealand. If we had to pick a 4th, we'd say Galen Rupp."
Is it just me or do Brojos constantly slight Rupp in predictions? Rupp just outran Geneti who the Brojos had this to say about:
"Geneti ran 7:32.69 in 2007 and he also has the best 5k PB in the field at 13:00. Last year, he ran 7:41.81 to get second in Boston."
How many times does Rupp have to prove himself?
I think everyone's probably wondering the same thing here: Where would Fernandez have finished?
Prove what? He ran good, no doubt. But whhat would cause the brojos to predict him higher than 3rd in this race? Obviously both Ethiopians have run faster in recent years, sooo...
Just for reference- The collegiate record is 7:39. Tim Broe ran 7:39 indoors (post-collegiate).

No idea, somewhere between 1st & 6th most likely. Until he runs an indoor 3k it's impossible to guess.

why I people picking such slow times?
no one predicted under 750
if the race is not too tactical rupp will definitely run under 750, probably up to 5 seconds under.
But I predict the race will be medium pace but pick up and rupp will be around 748 or 49.
rupp is good, I don't know why people are saying hes not good. He had only ran 3 solid races that were either prs or huge wins (scherer). Last year he ran 749 and his mid d times weren't nearly as good and he hadn't run 2733 at the olympics.
This is an eerily accurate prediction. Kudos to this guy.
