All good suggestions, however, you need a well rounded hatred first. Listen to some Bob Marley or watch some Ron Paul videos to develop a rich hatred of whatever is bringin you down. A rich hatred of "the man" is an essential base to your more intense hatred workouts as race day approaches.

I have to agree. Freshman year in college I was very blatantly elbowed square in the solar plexus by an upperclassman because I was "running too close on his shoulder" in an indoor 1500m. I got pissed off and would up nipping him at the line for a tidy 9 second PR.

I attempted to replicate this in subsequent races, only to find that I was no longer focusing on the race. Didn't work unless it was actual provoked anger.

After some time experimenting, I ended up learning some breathing exercises to do beforehand to keep me relaxed, and I ended up running better as a result. Anger makes you run stupid- sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't.
