Anyway, does anyone have more info on this supposed biathalon between Rumsas and Hissou?

Biathlon is the sport of x-c skiing and shooting.

Duathlon is running and biking.

And as for Rumsas vs. Hissou in a duathlon? Ridiculous. Never happened.

I know that I am jumping on both sides of this arguement now but going by supposed 10k prs, Lance would spank your boy, since they both have supposed prs in the same range, sub 29 for Lance and 28:45 range for your duathlon boy. You stated that duathlon boy is a world class level cyclist, well there really is no question who THE BEST cyclist on this planet is, so with supposed 10k's being similar and Lance's unquestionable ability on a bike, on Paper Lance would spank duathalon boy.... just food for thought....

Actually, Rumsas and Hissou did square off in a duathlon event. It was a benefit race to raise money for Rumsas' poor poor mother-in-law.

Particpants in the coed-relay included the teams of

Mary Slaney and Marco Pantani,

Olga Yegerova and Richard Virenque,

Carl Lewis and Eddy Merckx.

Don't know for sure what Lance's solo 10K PR is, but for argument sake, let's assume it's under 29, so these two athletes are at least comparable. Then there's also that little thing between the run and the bike, and also between the bike back to the run called the "transition". It takes time to switch from on to the other, when athletes are so close together, often the transition determines who wins. And not just the TIME spent in the transition area, but also how well their body adjust from one sport to the other.

Lance was a STUD triathlete as a teenager in Texas before he became a pro cyclist, but he never won anything close to world championships at multi-sport events.

PS -- Personally, I think LA is still the top athlete ... bar none.

That was why I liberally used "supposed" when refering to to both 10k prs. What it boils down to is specializing, and athletes competing in different sports with the only commonality is a bike. Who is to say that KK or Geb have even been on a bike, let alone know how to ride one or to be proficient on a racing bike? neither Lance or duathalon boy would be near their supposed pr's if they were to race a duathalon. I wouldn't see Lance/KK/Geb wasting his time in a duathalon, aren't these just hybrid sports created for people that could not cut it in either running or biking but were decent at both, or in the case of triathalon I guess you could add swimming?

Thats incredible if its true, are there any links to results about that event? I'm fairly amazed all those names got together in a duathlon, there must be some sort of coverage of something like that.

Comparing the two athletes at their specialty, *I* think LA's achievements are greater, but that's just MY opinion. As someone said earlier, LA's performance is a 10 and KK's is a 9.9999999 ...

you all seem to forget about dave scott the 6-time world ironman triathlon champion. you can't compare his athletic/aerobic capacity for a race. true, armstrong is competing for three straight weeks but he is working with a team. if lance wins the tour two more times then i will agree with him being the ultimate endurance athlete.

29:00 is a very fast time, that only about 40 American men can run each year. You are a moron if you think Lance can do that right now, or anytime in the near future

ANyway "Duathlon Boy" Benny Vansteelant recently ran a 48:00 10 miler and is a proven runner capable of running a sub 30 opening 10k, jumping on a bike for an hour of hard riding, and thn getting off and running near 15:00for a final 5k.

His PR is not a supposed PR. It is for real, and Lance's PRs are pure conjecture.

And yes, multisport is defenitely for people who could not cut it in one sport. However the top triathletes make mucho bucks, and are tough athletes.

As a boy in Mekenes he rode often, and is very, very quick. I've seen many of the top Moroccan runners ride race bikes and they're damn good. Brahim Boutayeb is lightning, and could have made a career of it.

I don't know where or when he ran it, as well I don't know where or when duathlon boy ran his 28:45 range???? 10k as well, those were just times that have been mentioned on this thread and I used them to come to my theoretical conclusion... I know hardly a thing about Armstrong and any supposed exploits or until you mentioned duathalon boy I never heard of him. I am happy that they can do something they like and make mucho bucks, more power to them! I just think that theorizing who is the best athlete coming from two different endurance sports and then going by supposed 10k pr's as somewhat of a common denominator is kinda pushing the envelope, you mentioned duathlon boy's 48:00 10 miler, but never said where, in a time trial, in an actual race, or something he measured off in his car or estimated to be 10, or even his 10k? I was an also ran back in the day but when I mention my 5k pr I can say 1991 Mt sac, 13:46.2, on the track, on a perfect night, and all the stars were lined up etc... etc... again I think it is crazy to try and compare any of these athletes, they have all excelled at the sport they chose to compete in, and in my humble opinion that is enough...

While we're on the subject of physiology, I thought I should bring one more name into the open. Bjorn Daelhie. The Norwegian Cross Country skier. 9 Olympic gold medals, and had a V02max of 98 a couple of years ago during his prime. Watch for his name in this years in World Loppet (ski marathons) series.

We could indefinitely argue and agree and agree to disagree, which is the beauty of this site, like I could say I bet that there are no NFL players that could beat Marion Jones in the 100 meters,and for the most part I would be right, but to say that Marion could rush for 100 yards in an NFL game, well.... Does anyone remember Emmit Smith talking noise on the Jay Leno show in the winter of 1996 saying he was going to show the world who the fastest man really was? Give me a break?!!? There were and are guys in the league that are fast, but it is two different worlds, much like our little debate here, apples and oranges, similarities yes, but worlds apart never the less....

Those are Lance's stats. If you think an 83 VO2 max automatically makes someone capable of a sub 29:00 10k, you dont know much about physiology. And Lance's 32+ minute 10k's in High School are great, but not evidence of sub 29 ability.

I know he could crush people in duathlon. Im just saying it would take a while, maybe a year.

Also, Simon Lessing's run at Boston was mis-reported, it was a random distance of about 8-9k.

I know only because I occasionally train with him. Now there is a guy who defenitely could run sub-29 if he just ran for a whole year. Amazing runner for a guy of his size.

Now who is speculating??!!?? you have done nothing but throw random distances and numbers, you state 48:00 10 miler was that 48:00 flat or 48:59, like KK ran a 2:05 this weekend by saying that it implies that he broke his world record when he actually did not, now you say miss reporting that the actual distance for a duathalon leg a person did was around 8-9 k,what is it? even the difference between 8-9 k is very significant and if he did his 8k in 27 something, how does that compute to a possible or capable sub 29 10k? well with it being that far off from a 10k, how are we supposed to take any time or distance you mention as legit? Sounds like there really is no real measuring for accuracy on your duathalon competitions, who does the certification for your events, hell I may have to come out of retirement and run duathalons to break old prs!! Sounds like a Pow wow (reservation) fun run I ran a few years back and they said it was a 5k, I ran 11:22, had significant hills on a dirt road etc..??!!??
