I liked the part about living in reality, but then he lost me when he started picking and choosing. The first two finishers are apparently not cheats, the rest of the field -- except Fam, according to him -- are cheats. He needs to beat the rest of the field to get the bronze from the dirty cheats.

There are people who cheat, but how does he know the steeplechase field is full of cheats? If he does, he should report it, with names. Perhaps the final is without cheats?

I'm not sure why Daws and coach think it's fine just to be throwing out accusations without any proof. If he has proof and there are cheats out there, the officials should be notified. Granted, that's not a perfect system either, but it's better than saying there is a large group of cheats in the field and then not doing anything about it.

Fam said this is a 100 percent fact: There will be cheats in the steeple final.

Question: How does he know this?

Question 2: Who are they?

Question 3: Why isn't he doing anything about it?

I have not read the entire thread so I apologise if this repeats the arguments of someone else. I am not happy with the statement made by Fam:

1. When Fam talks about "stealing it from one of those dirty jerks and getting the bronze" Fam is unambiguously referring to male steeplechase runners in the hunt for medals, and most likely the medal favorites. He is not talking about people that finish at the back of the final or the people that get knocked out of the heats. Medallists don't steal races from those people: those people never had the race to be stolen from them. Medallists steal races from the favorites and race-leaders.

2. We don't know for certain who will be in the hunt for medals at the steeplechase. There may well be a couple of surprises. But I would bet my left testicle on there being a significant Kenyan contingent (be they wearing the Kenyan vest or Quatari vest or other vest) in the mix. In the last ten global championships there have been six medallists in the steeplechase who were not of Kenyan extraction. Kenya 24 v rest of world 6. Who does the Rest of the World in general and Fam in particular think he is kidding?! In order for him to get a medal, he has to have the race of his life and, effectively, steal a medal from a Kenyan.

3. Of course, as a matter of strict logical inference, Fam has not said that the Kenyans are doping. But the immediate implication of his words is that the medal favorites are dirty jerks. And who the hell are the medal favorites if not the Kenyans. That was my instinctive thought directly after reading the quotation. If that was not what Fam wanted to imply he should have been a lot clearer and more careful with his words - he knows he is in the public eye and he has a huge responsibility towards his fellow competitors. I do not feel this statement was worthy with him and I have lost respect for him.

I'd be interested to read counter-arguments - I would like to think I am wrong on this.

hey look, its exactly what Northwest said, but presented in a logical manner. I think this is the post I agree with in the entire thread.

Why does Fam assume that there are going to be cheaters in the race and why would he race for third place? It appears that Fam is just unable to accept that there are people better than he is. Maybe he thinks that his training is so great that how could there be someone better than him, well I've got news for Fam, the guys that are better than him grew up differently, live differently and train differently, all of which are contributing factors to his inability to win internationaly.

Also I think that you shouldn't accuse anyone of doing something unless you have evidence. With that being said racing will determine who is better and thats why races are run. Simply Fam can't beat the guys on the international level.

Question for Northwest Run:

Sammy Kipketer, Wilson Kipketer, Noah Ngeny, Bernard Lagat, Daniel Komen (the 7:20 Daniel Komen with the bloodshot eyes who looked like he just finished his warmup when he crossed the line).

If you honestly try to argue that all these guys are/were clean then I have a $2,000,000 - 800 SF Igloo in Houston to sell you.

If you try to argue that possibly all of these guys did use PED's then I think someone just turned on your thinking switch.

That doesn't take into account the obvious Dieter Bauman, Mohammed Mourhit etc., etc. There are out there, plain and simple. Not every one of them but they are there.

Testing is behind the game and that's all there is to it. It's still impressive to see what people can do on these PED's. You will never see all of these athletes compete clean when there is sooooo much to be awarded to them for cheating. A house, land and a mercedes in Kenya? Come on, that's like a mansion in beverly hills here with a Penelope Cruz lookalike maid.

I think it's rather easy to argue that none of are/were doping as none of them failed a test. If all you have to offer is that one of them has bloodshot eyes which (a) I wasn't aware was strong evidence of using drugs and (b) doesn't appear to be true anyway:

As Fam crossed the finish line in 3rd place in Beijing the athlete who won reached out to shake his hand. Fam said "Get your hands off me you dam dirty ape." This was caught on camera and in the coming weeks Fam was approached by hollywood execs to star in a new Planet of the Apes. The movie will focus on the battle between the good clean americans who go to church everyday and the vicious apes who try to conquer the world by winning steeple chase races.

Way to be out of touch. Did you know Kim McDonald? Did he seem like a cheater to you? I think that he was crazy, questionable as a coach, terrible as a businessman, but not a thief. If you really think that Kim was giving drugs to Komen (and Sammy Kipketer?!?) then it stands to reason he would have been giving them to his standout from Indiana, Bob Kennedy.

Reading over my post again I realise that I have made an error. I should have said, in 3. above:
