Pre ran a race 3 days after the Olympic Final? That seems crazy, right? I can't believe there was a track meet 3 days after the Olympic 5k. That can't be normal. Check page 2 of this thread for a list of Pre's results.

Rupp is only half the runner that Pre was. Pre would routinely run the mile AND two mile at the same meet and win both. Then 6 days later, he'd do it again. We're lucky if Rupp races once a month. Lets be honest, I am an admitted Rupp fan, but he doesn't have jack on Pre. And as far as advantages? I'm sure that if Rupp had been wearing shoes fresh out of a waffle iron and running on a cinder track, that 10k would be a little slower.

And as far as Andy Wheating...Good job! Way to break through!

new hampshire has 2 now both from 2006 indoor season i believe - sean o'brien, tilton ,winnisquam high school and american university and russell brown, hanover, hanover high school and stanford.

Several have done the metric equivalent (Drew Griffen 3:39, Eric O'Brien 3:38, Brendan Mahoney 3:39) but I don't believe any of the above have run a mile under 4 (though all got close at one time or another). Next chance will be probably be Hubers at Indiana (already run 3:45 as a frosh) or if Mahoney (who has also run 3:45 this year) get the right race at the right time.
