Oh man this is really draining. I read wikipedia and have more information than ever but what i learned at uni was easily enough to understand it's limited application to coaching or 'training technique'. I realise i don;t know as much as you about this microcosm of knowledge that has a minute relationship to coaching technique (that might work?).
If we take Mr Canovo (google this please) and Mr Cabral's statements about the relatioship of physiologists to coaching technique we realise that yes, you can offer advice but i wouldn't suggest telling a coach to change. It's like being one of the helpers and the coach is in charge kind of thing. Suggestions are great but orders are not so great. Maybe from an ego perspective but maybe also from the perspective of looking after 117 independent variables concurrently and continuously for at least a year, whereas the physiologist is looking at 3, here and there.
Unfortunately, the purse strings are often controlled by people who don't really understand coaching or coaches themselves. The same people become accountants and phsyiologists and the accountants end up as directors of an athletic program more attuned to what the physiologists are saying than the coaches. I'm sure a lot of people are aware of a situation like this. It is half of what is causing Oz athletics to struggle right now. Artists are mostly misunderstood individuals.
Maybe Tinman can disect my program???
