I wouldn't presume everyone hypocritical on this issue. First many posters do blame the NCAA, Nike and UofO for letting this happen. Second, I wouldn't have put myself in the situation Rupp did. I think many other athletes have a little more respect for their team experience. And quit passing off this BS that Rupp is just so exceptional. Rupp has run a couple of great times, but he's never overcome real competition to win anything, and he damn well isn't consistent.
I don't think anyone actually hates Rupp. The BS that goes on between Nike and the NCAA certainly isn't Rupps fault, but I also don't think he's that stupid that he couldn't see how he'd be percieved going in.
Rupp has made himself into an easy target, and doesn't deserve everybody's unwavering support anymore than anyone else. Additionally, all this apologetic fanboys whining makes you sound like some pre teen defending Britney.
BTW, How do you know if he's done anything wrong or not? Has the NCAA audited the pertinent financials? How frequently is he tested for PED use?
I'm more or less defending him on principle. People see someone that receives benefits through nothing but luck and they get upset. Same as how some people catch bad breaks through no fault of their own.
I don't think I've ever watched Rupp run a race other than watching his finish against Solinsky in a 5k last year. I don't think I've ever seen him talk. I just don't like seeing someone, anyone, get crap for something they don't deserve to get crap for. He doesn't deserve crap for what people are giving him crap for.

He's not doing anything wrong himself, he's just taking advantage of the situation that faces him. Be upset at THAT, not him. Mtndew and another stupid response. There are thousands of NCAA athletes who compete and live within the NCAA rules. Your defending him on principle? What a bunch of bullshit. Rupp and MANY other NCAA athletes deserve more, but they have a choice - it's called going Pro.
Look at Webb, he thought he was better than the NCAA system and he MOVED ON LIKE A MAN to compete on that next level and he succeeded.
Rupp has taken those advantages and stayed in the amauter level competing against student athletes, all of whom will never dream of receiving the benefits he does.
He DOES deserve the crap he's getting. He blatantly has an advantage at this level that no ONE ELSE has or has a shot at even getting! That's cheating to me. If you want to be a f***ing pro, move on to that level and compete with them.

If Rupp wants to do everything possible, he should go pro so he can, because in this AMAUTER SYSTEM called the NCAA you are restricted. Webb, Ritz, etc have left the system and done/received everything they can for running. THEY LEFT.
Rupp operates within the amauter system when he clearly is a professional.

I just want to give my $0.02 and then I'll go back to the superbowl. Honestly, I am neutral on Rupp, I don't hate him, but I certainly don't have a man crush on him. I can see why some runners really don't like him. I'm sure he works extremely hard, but there is definitely the perception that he gets everything handed to him, i.e. Salazar, Nike, The Oregon Project, etc. While I enjoy watching him race, I can see why some runners hate him, especially compared to guys like Brian Sell. I mean face it...how many pro runners fly on a private jet once a week just so they can run on an indoor track? Not many.

If you want the benefits of being a professional make it legit and go professional.
Webb ran 3:53 in HS and did not receive ultra special treatment (getting flown in Nike's private jet to an indoor track once a week). Ritz ran 13:45, etc.
