The qualifying period for 2008 OG maarthon started 1 Sept 06 so Jon Brown has QT from Fukoaka 06. It's actually quite possible that whichever 6 Brits get UK selection for Beijing will do so with runs outside the sort-of-trial race in FLM 08.

Are you sure ?
Matt O'Dowd ran in Athens 2004 Olympics with his QT from New York in November 2002.
It's stated on IAAF website (which, beng a sad fella, I checked) so yes
Thankyou, glad you have a sense of humour.ps keep up with the spelling lessions.x

Yeah don`t think 2.15 will be good enough. Anyway even if Vero should smash the 2.15 I don`t think it will have any bearing as I expect Stefan Glaysher to be in front of him.
Yeah Glaysher should be watched as he's popping some pretty quick times at the moment. He's now even set up his own website - the road to Bungay.
I doubt Vero will run much faster than 2:25-2:30, and even those times would be a very good achievement for that man.
He has come quite far in the last couple of years, but to get down to 2:15, he would need to show some shorter distance form which has not been evident, so far.
I assume you chaps are joking about Vero's chances to make the team, because his chances are virually nil. There are quite a few lads out there in the UK who could run decently in the marathon.
How fast do you think Robinson would have run in Dublin, had he been in form (which he usually is)? I think he would have run no faster than 2:12, which is a good time, but I think he would have been at least 1.30 behind Abyu.
If Abyu and Robinson make the team for Beijing, I see Robinson finishing higher than Abyu in a race with difficult climatic conditions. Robinson knows how to prepare for those races, and can always be relied upon to produce the goods.
Ghost in Korea
Not in reply, to any message, but re the marathon can any tell me what happened to Matt O'Dowd ?, he was promising.
I hope thats all he`s popping as it would be a shame to find out that his performances this year have not all been due to hard work.
Yeah I`ve been following his Glayshers website for some time. The black dog certaintly gives it all in his sessions.
I guess you have heard that Vero is training in Boulder with Steve Jones at present. That should bring him on and give him a lot of confidence.
Another Ekiden selection saga looming then.
UK Athletics can now select Brown for the Olympic Marathon even if he has no "current" form.
UK Athletics need to give clear guidance on their marathon selection policy now, so Glaysher and Vero know exactly what they`ve got to do over the next 6 months.
Jonesy may be good but Polley is better. At least Vero will be doing some decent sessions ... in the pub.
Check the FULL marathon selection criteria on UKA website - there's a new rigid tests of 'current'form - part of the DC regime'
No joke Ghost...check out these sites:-

Ron Hill ran 2.09 some 37 years ago.
Now thats what I call a "heck of a runner".
2.10 in 2007 a "heck of a runner"
Don`t think so.

Mentioning of your own regime in a post? now that IS sad dc!
hey you, don't pick on my cousin "sed"
brown ran 2:11:46 so he does not have the time. the a standard is 2.11
Cheeky blighter. Mum's the word eh. mr Collins' policy requires some sort of 20k-ish test in earlu summer 08 for slected marathoners, I can't be arsed to check detials at the moment. Won't affect me.
Right you are - UKA requiring someting tougher than the IAAF A standard.
